You will need:
1 hank of The Unique Sheep Green Sheep Sport ( $100\%$ Organic Merino, 330 yards) Shown in Gradiance colorway 'Vivian'. (Note: only half a hank was used for this project) US 7 $(4.5\;\mathsf{m m})$ I straights or circulars Ribbon Darning needle Gauge: 5 sts/inch in stockinette
A note on construction:
The neck warmer is worked starting with the lace edge, which begins and ends in garter stitch that is shaped into points. These points make a flat edge when the piece is blocked. After the edging is worked, stitches are picked up along the edge, and the body of the piece is worked in a stockinette and slipped stitch pattern. The piece is then finished off with picot edging. The sample shown features added length so that when the ribbon is worn with it it cinches up and makes a ruffled effect. Another option is to make the neck warmer shorter, so it is fitted around the neck. You can omit the ribbon in favor of working button-holes along one edge.

Next row (Ws): knit across (RS) Row 2: k1, k2tog, knit to end Rep these 2 rows until 3 sts remain Next row: k3tog, break yarn and draw end through remaining stitch (bound off) Pick up stitches for top of neck warmer: With RS of work facing you, pick up 116 sts evenly across top edge (non scalloped edge) of work. (A note about picking up sts: be sure to pick up the stitches even across the work and to start at the very tip of the piece and pick up the very last sts on the other end. This will ensure the work lies flat.)

Row 1 (Ws): sl1, purl across Row 2: sl1, knit across Begin slipped stitch pattern: Row 3 (WS): $\ ^{\ast}{\sf k1}.$ $s|1^{*}$ repeat to last 2, k2 Row 4: knit across Row 5: k2, $\bf*_{S l1}$ , $k1^{*}$ repeat to end Row 6: knit across Repeat rows 3-6 for $1^{\prime\prime}$ Work eyelet row on a Rs/knit even row as follows: Eyelet row: k2, yo, k2tog, $\ast_{\mathsf{k4}}$ yo, k2tog\* rep to last 4, k4 Continue working slipped stitch pattern rows 3-6 for another inch, ending on a RS row. Work 4 rows of stockinette beginning with a purl row.

Work picot bind off as follows: \*Cable cast on 2 sts, bind off 4 sts, sllast worked st from right to left needle\* rep from \* to \* across binding off all sts. (Note: For help working a picot bind-off or doing the cable cast-on, there are several helpful articles available at www.knitty.com) Weave in ends and block thoroughly (so the lace is clearly visible) Thread ribbon through eyelets as pictured in top photo. A note on blocking: To make sure all your points on both the bottom edge and picot bind-off are straight, I recommend using blocking wires or threading scrap yarn through the points evening them and then securing tightly with pins to block straight.
