Gratitude
Having made big changes in her life, a dear friend described herself as "living in a state of gratitude". When I first heard her say that, I thought about my own state of being and I realized that I, too, was very grateful. Since venturing out as an Indie pattern designer and instructor, my circle of friends is growing all of the time. I'm grateful for the many opportunities that have come my way. I'm grateful for the many friends I have made in this fiber community and beyond, and the joy I get to experiencewiththeminthiswonderfulworld. I have designed and knit a gratitude hug for all of you. Please enjoy! The sample in these photos was knit with Danube Bulky from Crystal Palace Yarns, which knits up quickly with size 10 y2 needles. The approximate dimensions are: 56"in circumference at the bottom, 40"in circumference at the top and 13" in length.Gauge is 3 sts./in.
Materials
Four skeins of Crystal Palace Yarns, Danube Bulky. This color is #909, Candy Store. Each hank is 81 yards. (324 yards total). Size 10 12 circular needles in a 24" inch length. One stitch marker.

The shoulder wrap is loosely knit in the round, from the bottom up, starting with a 2 x2 rib, followed with an evenly decreased stockinette stitch pattern, and finished with rounds of brioche and an I-cord bind off It is a snuggly shoulder wrap, but may also be bunched up tobe a comfy cowl. For a stretchy cast on, using the long tail method, cast on 180 stitches, holding two needle tips together. Gently pull on the back of the cable as you prevent the stitches from slipping off the needles and release one tip, leaving all of the stitches on the cable. Distribute the stitches around, making sure they are not twisted. To join in the round, cross the first stitch and the last stitch. Slip the first cast on stitch purl wise onto the right needle. Pass the last stitch cast on over it and leave that stich on the left needle. Place a marker in between these two stitches. (This eliminates the "stair-stepped" connection resulting in an even join.) Rounds 1-5: \*K2, P2, repeat from \* to end of the round (EOR). Rounds 6-7: Knit. Round 8: K22, K2T0G, (K43, K2T0G) 3x, K21. 176 stitches remain. Rounds 9-10: Knit.
