Holly Leaf Scarf -- Grande: A quick project to grace your neck! By Dianna Repp, 2012 (with gratitude to Lesley Arnold-Hopkins forherversion of holly leaves)

Materials:
Plymouth Yarn, Mulberry Merino, 1 skein or less Lace weight mohair yarn, 1 skein or less (Yarn is held double throughout the project.) Size 8 needles Berries: Beads or buttons to use as berries (Sample: pearl buttons) Gauge: Not critical Sample: ribbing: 5 stitches = 1 inch; stockinette: 3.5 stitches = 1 inch
Directions:
Begin the scarf: Cast on three stitches with provisional cast on of your choice. Rows: 1: Knit (front of scarf) 2. K1, P1, K1 (back of scarf) Begin Holly Leaf Directions, and knit one holly leaf.
Holly Leaf Directions:
1: K1, YO, K1, YO, K1 (5 sts) 2: K1, P to last stitch, K1 3: K2, YO, K1,YO, K2 (7 sts) 4: K1, P to last stitch, K1 5. K3, YO, K1, YO, K3 (9 sts) 6. K1, P to last stitch, K1 7. K4, YO, K1, YO, K4 (11 sts) 8. Bind off 3 sts (as K), P to last st, K 1 (9 sts) 9. Bind off 3 sts (as K), K1,YO, K1, YO, K2 (7 sts) 10. K1, P to last stitch, K1 11. K3, YO, K1, YO, K3 (9 sts) 12. K1, P to last stitch, K1 13. K4, YO, K1, YO, K4 (11 sts) 14. K1, P to last stitch, K1 15. K5, YO, K1, YO, K5 (13 sts) 16. Bind off 4 sts (as K), P to last st, K1 17. Bind off 4 sts (as K), K1, YO, K1, YO, K2 (7 sts) 18. K1, P to last stitch, K1 19. K3, YO, K1, YO, K3 (9 sts) 20. Slip 1 (as if to P), P1, PSSO, P to last 2 Sts, P 2 tog through the back loops (7 sts) 21. Slip 1 (as if to K), K1, PSSO, K across to last 2 sts, K2tog (5 sts) 22. Slip 1 (as if to P), P1, PSSO, P1, P 2 tog through the back loops (3 sts) 23. K across 24. K1, P1, K1 25. Work Center Double Decrease on the 3 sts of this row. Cut yarn about 3", slip through last remaining stitch, and weave in end.
Begin knitting the main ribbed section of the scarf:
Remove provisional cast-on and place sts on needle. Attach yarn, so that you will begin knitting on a right side row. Rows: 1. K1, Pickup a stitch in the row below current row (the loop in between the stitches) and P it, K1, Pickup a stitch in the row below current row and P it, K1 (5 sts) Row 2: P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 Row 3 and all following rows: K the K sts and P the P stitches. This creates the ribbing. --Continue the ribbing until you have desired length and wish to add the holly leaf for that end o1 the scarf. --End by knitting a right side row. Adding the holly leaf after the ribbed section of the scarf: On a wrong side row: Decrease to three stitches: Slip 1 (as if to P), P1, PSSO, P1, P 2 tog through the back loops (3 sts) Beginning with Row 1 in the Holly Leaf Directions, knit one holly leaf.
Finishing:
Block scarf - pull out the points on the holly leaves. Sew three berries of your choice to front of each set of Rows 23 and 24 - the place the holly leaves join the ribbing. Wear and enjoy!
Stitch Guide: Center Double Decrease:
●3 sts on L needle. Insert R needle into first 2 sts on L needle, from left to right as if to K, slip both sts tog to R needle. ·K st on L needle. Pull each slipped st from R needle, one at a time, over new st on L needle. Only 1 st is left, now on L needle, with the center st on top. PSSO: Pass the slipped stitch over the stitch just created.
