OH MY STAR> AMVD GARTER> SATCHEL \*\*
A simple garter stitch satchel gains a little pep with a funky yarn and some shiny embellishments.

Materials
Notes: Garter stitch is a knitting stitch pattern that results in a fabric consisting of horizontal ridges. In needle knitting, it is formed by knitting both sides of the work, instead of knitting one side and purling the next. In loom knitting, the right side of the work is always facing you. In order to create a garter stitch pattern in loom knitting, knit one row and then purl the next. Continue alternating a knit row with a purl row until you reach the desired length, or for as long as the pattern indicates. Many patterns will indicate a number of garter stitch rows to work. Usually this means one knit row + one purl row = one row of garter. Keep this in mind when working patterns that include the garter stitch. Rather than a set number of rows, this pattern indicates a length to work to. End with a purl row before binding off. Let's get started!
Instructions
Strap: Create a 2 peg I-cord approximately 42 inches in length. Bind off and set aside. Large gauge loom with at least 24 pegs. The blue round Knifty Knitter was used in the sample) Approximately 12 oz of a bulky weight yarn. The sample used 3 balls of SWTC Gianna. (If preferred, two strands of worsted weight yarn can be used instead of a bulky weight yarn.) 160 yards of a fun, novelty strand yarn. The sample used Lion Brand Moonlight Mohair. Pick tool, tapestry needle, 3 star shaped buttons (3 buttons in any shape will work for this satchel) 2 peg I-cord: Place a slip knot on the first peg. Wrap the second peg (around the back and to the front of the peg). Wrap the first peg (around the back and to the front of the peg). Wrap the second peg again. Notice how you are wrapping back and forth in a figure 8. Knit the bottom loops up over the top loops on peg one and peg two. Continue wrapping in a figure 8 and knitting the bottom loops over the top loops until the Icord reaches the desired length. (Tip: Gently tug on the I-cord every so often to help set the stitches in place). When the cord has reached the length you need, fasten it off by moving the loop from peg two over above the loop on peg one. Knit off. Cut the working yarn, and then lay the yarn tail across the peg, above the last loop. Knit off and pull on the yarn tail to tighten up the bind off.

Bag: Cast on 24 pegs. Do NOT join. (This bag is worked as a flat panel, rather than in the round.) Work in garter stitch (knit one row and then purl the next row) until the fabric measures 20 inches. Bind off using the basic bind off method.
Finishing
Step 1: After binding off, the knitted piece will be a rectangle measuring 20 inches in length. (See Figure 1) Fold the bind off edge up about 7 inches. Use a whipstitch to seam each side edge together, creating a pocket in the lower portion of the fabric. (See Figure 2) Step 2: Sew the I-cord strap to the sides of the bag, along the seam line. In the sample project, a length of strap measuring approximately 3-4 inches is sewn down on each side. (See Figure 3) Step 3: Place a button 1 inch in from the side and 1 inch down from the bind off edge. Securely sew the button in place. Set the second button the same distance in at the other side of the bind off edge (1" in from the side, 1" down from the bind off edge) and sew it on securely. Center the last button, setting it 1" down from the bind off edge and sew it on securely. Step 4: The remaining 6" of the knitted fabric is the flap portion of the satchel. Fold this down over the pocket created in step 2. Secure the flap with the buttons, buttoning directly into the knitting. (See Figure 4) Now, find something to stash in your spiffy new satchel.
