Unpredictable Elegance: Rialta Scarf Pattern for Adventurous Knitters with Noro Silk Garden Yarn

Deceptively simple, the Rialta scarf pattern takes full advantage of yarns that slowly change color. Combining a simple stitch pattern with the technique of alternating two skeins of yarn results in a beautiful scarf that will bring a bit of unpredictability to your knitting.

Be daring; combine different colors of yarn and see what happens! The original was made using 4 very different colorways of Noro Silk Garden. This pattern would also be a great way to use up scrap yarns of the same weight. This project requires knowledge of how to cast on, knit, spit splice, increase, decrease and bind off while reading a basic pattern. Visit www.kylewilliam.com where on the video page you'll discover tutorials explaining many of the necessary techniques for this project. PATTERN

Using twisted German cast on, CO 48 sts, leaving a 6" tail. Setup: K 2 rows with color A. Keeping A connected, join color B and K 2 rows. NOTE: When alternating between colors, do not cut yarn. Each color will be used to knit two rows. Carry the new yarn up the side of the piece, being careful not to pull too tight or leave too much slack, and continue knitting with the new color. Row 1: With Color A, [K2tog] 4 times, [KFB] 8 times, [K2tog] 8 times, [KFB] 8 times, [K2tog] 4 times Row 2: With Color A, K all sts Rows 3-4: With Color B, K all sts Repeat these 4 rows, alternating between the two skeins until approximately 12 of the skeins are used. Break the yarn of Color A, locate a similar color on the next skein of yarn, and spit splice it to the yarn tail. Reserve the remaining yarn. Continue knitting until the end of the Color B is reached, then spit splice the last full ball of yarn to the end of that yarn. When the end of Color A is reached, spit splice the remaining 12 skein previously removed. Using this trick will make the joins difficult to detect. If the yarn ends that are spliced are similarly colored, the join will be invisible. Continue knitting until the scarf measures approximately 60", ending with row 4. Bind off all sts, weave in ends and enjoy!
