Size: Women's Medium-Large Materials: 1 ball each of KnitPicks Stroll Handpainted Sock Yarn: Dolly and KnitPicks Palette: Currant. One 16” #3 circular needle, four #3 DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge), stitch marker, and tapestry needle Gauge: 32 stitches and 32 rounds = 4" using #3 needles. Abbreviations: K2TOG = Knit two stitches together. SSK = Slip one stitch, then slip the next. Insert left needle into the front loops of the slipped stitches and knit them together from this position. Socks are worked top-down.

LEG:

With circular needle or DPNs, CO 64 sts using Dolly. (16 sts on each of four DPNs). Join to work in round, placing marker and being careful not to twist stitches. Knit 12-15 rounds 2x2 rib. Inc 2 sts to work chart on 66 sts. Follow CHART A (11 repeat per round). Rearrange sts on 49th round as you go, to achieve the following arrangement: Needle 1 has 22 sts Needle 2 has 11 sts Needle 3 has 11 sts Needle 4 has 22 sts. NOTE: Use my unique Frequent Floats technique to create a sock whose inside is as smooth as its outside! I demonstrate in this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYxX7MrpJ-Qs

HEEL:

My socks feature the Sweet Tomato Heel (STH). You may use the heel of your choice, but I recommend one that does not employ a flap or gussets to allow for an even design flow through the instep. For a tutorial on the STH, see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRc3309JUyc Once you understand Cat Bordhi's STH, proceed with sock. Follow Cat Bordhi's heel instructions, knitting heel with Currant. Work three wedges on the 44 sts on needles 1 and 4. Work wedges leaving 8 stitch pairs on each side (12 heel sts left unpaired between pairs). Knit according to pattern across the instep stitches between wedges. (You will attach Dolly and detach at each instep crossing. These ends will be tied and trimmed later.)

FOOT:

Working all sts on circular needle or split evenly on DPNs, as with leg. Work CHART A once through for 49 rounds, Or more if you want foot longer.

TOE:

Using Currant, decrease for toe as follows: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts of NEEDLE 1, K2TOG, K1 Needle 2: K 1, SSK, knit until the last 3 stitches of NEEDLE 3 Needle 3: K to last 3 sts, K2TOG, K1 Needle 4: K1, SSK knit to last 3 sts of NEEDLE 1 Repeat this until there are 7 sts left on each needle. Place sts from needles 4 and 1 onto one needle (14sts). Place sts from needles 2 and 3 onto another needle (14 sts). iraft the remaining stitches together using Kitchener st, and weave in all ends. n all color change ends at beginning and ends of rounds. Wash and block to f CHART A
