Awesomely quick scarf using ruffle yarn. Only one ball required. Fringed along one edge. Knowledge of crochet is required. No hook used, only your fingers! You will be crocheting a big, loose windowpane, wrapping and looping the yarn in the same manner as for double crochet. Begin by making a loose slip knot approx 5" in from the end. With your index finger and thumb, pull a loop of the ruffle yarn through. At this point, tighten the slip knot. Chain 50. Don't pull the chains too tight, but don't let them hang sloppily either. Each chain should measure approx 1.25". Your complete chain should measure approx 55"L. Join the chain, forming a circle. Adjust this joining so that it is snug but not too tight. Chain3. \*Wrap yarn loosely around index finger as you would for double crochet. With index finger, pull yarn through the second stitch from the right at joining. (Three loops on finger). Pull yarn through the first two loops. ( two loops on finger). pull yarn through these two loops. (One loop on finger). Chain 1.\* You have now completed one giant windowpane. Proceed as described above, from \*to\* for each windowpane, working your way around the chain, skipping one chain between each double crochet windowpane. When you have worked your way all around to the beginning, join the windowpanes by looping the yarn through your original chain 3. Fix yarn so it won't unravel. Cut the yarn approx 7" from end loop. Pull or weave this end invisibly through your stitches so that it comes out next to the yarn tail where you started. Tie these two together and trim the ends so they're even. These two tails are your first tassel. To make the remaining tassels: Cut the remaining yarn into as many 8" pieces as possible. You should have approx 15 to 17 pieces, but more or less is ok! Grasp each 8" length at the center. Fold it in half and pull this fold through one of the chain stitches along the bottom of the scarf. Then pull the two raw ends through this loop, and tighten gently onto the chain stitch. ( The bottom of the scarf would be the edge where your yarn tails [that you have already tied together] are ). The tassels will go along this one edge only. Space them evenly. It is ok if they seem sparse. When you are wearing the scarf, they appear to multiply! This pattern is written for use with a single skein of ruffle yarn (approx 23 yards). I've noticed that these skeins vary in their yardage. If you are concerned that you won't have enough yarn for the scarf and tassels, you can shorten your initial chain (40 to 45 stitches instead of the 50 I've indicated) and therefore save yarn for use with the tassels.
