Say hello to your new favourite hat! Harmonium hat combines perfect elements to create a light and drapey hat that you will never want to take off. For a real lacey treasure, use luxury yarns with a bit of fuzz and sparkle. This delicate stitch is easy to memorize and is simple enough for knitters who are new to lace knitting. Choose from either a slouch or beanie style. This hat is knit from the bottom to the crown with a fingering weight yarn and a lace weight yarn held together double stranded. This hat has three sizes and no visible seam.

Yarn Requirements

Silver Slouch (size medium) Used approx 134 m/147 yds of Ultra Alpaca Fine (34 g/1.2 oz) with 160 m/176 yds of Silk Haze Eclipse (20 g/0.7 oz)

Golden Beanie (size large)

Used approx 110 m/121 yds of Ultra Alpaca Fine (28 g/1 oz) with 142 m/155 yds of Art Yarns Silk Mohair Glitter in colour gold (13 g/0.5 oz)

Instructions:

Beginning at bottom with smaller circs CO 100 (108, 116) sts (or a multiple of 4) with twisted German method and both strands held together Join in the rnd being careful not to twist sts. Pm for beg of rnd. Sl m throughout. K1, P1 for 2.5 cm/1" (approx 8 rnds). Change to larger circs. Knit 1 rnd. Begin Harmonium Pattern.

Rnd 1: \*K2, YO, sl 1, K1, psso\*, rep from \* to \* tc end. Rnd 2: \*K2tog, YO, K2\*, rep from \* to \* to end. Rep the 2 rnds of Harmonium Pattern for 15 cm/6" for beanie (20 cm/8" for slouch). Hat should measure approx 18 cm/7"(23 cm/9") from CO. K1, P1 for 4 rnds. Begin decs.

Decreases

Change to dpns when sts become too tight on circs. Rnd 1: \*K1, K2tog, P1\*, rep from \* to \* to end. Rnd 2-3: Knit. Rnd 4: Sl 1 pwise, \*K1, K2tog\*, rep from \* to \* to last st, sl st to right needle, remove m, sl st back to left needle, K2tog, replace m. Rnd 5: Knit. Rnd 6: K2tog to end. Rnd 7-8: Rep Rnds 5-6 (if you have 1 st rem, K1). Tie off and weave in ends.
