Broken Rib Worked in the round. Rnd 1: Purl. Rnd 2: [K1, p1] to end. Repeat these two rounds. StrandedLattice Worked in the round. CO multiple of 10 sts. Work Stranded Lattice pattern chart.

Directions
Using MC, CO 150 (160, 170) sts, leaving a long tail for sewing the brim. Join in the round, PM to mark beginning of round. Work in Broken Rib pattern until piece measures 2" /5 cm from CO edge, ending after a purl round. NOTE: The brim gauge will be considerable larger than the stranded gauge and the brim will be a good deal larger than the head size. This is intentional - you will be sewing this brim up inside the hat to give it its bell shape. Next rnd: K1, m1, k to end. Set up colourwork charts: K41 in MC, PM, work rnd 1 of Stranded Lattice chart, bringing in CC, repeating it around until you reach the first marker. On the next round, begin the Gryphon chart after the marker, then continue the Lattice chart as established. Continue working both charts until the Gryphon chart is complete. After the Gryphon is finished, work the section between the markers in MC, catching the CC strand every 5 sts or so, and continue working the Lattice pattern until you've completed rnd 1 of that pattern. Break CC. Using MC only, work crown decreases as follows: Setup rnd (remove the marker between the charts when you come to it): K2tog, k14 (15, 16) pm, [k15 (16, 17), pm] to end. Rnd 1: [K to 2 before marker, k2tog] to end. Rnd 2: Knit. Repeat these two rounds until 20 sts remain. Next rnd: K2tog around. (10 sts) Next rnd: K2tog around, moving all the sts to one needle. (5 sts) Break yarn and, using the tapestry needle, pull the tail through the remaining 5 sts.
Finishing
Weave in all ends except the CO tail. Fold the brim inwards and pin it flat against the inside of the hat. Using the long tail and tapestry needle, sew the brim in place. You can use a whip stitch; just make sure to catch only single MC sts in the main body of the hat so the sewing doesn't show on the outside. Soak and lay flat or place on hat form to dry.
