Effervescent Love Beanie

This pattern was created in response to the tragic mass shooting in Orlando. I am making this an always free pattern and including some links within it. These links go to the Human Rights Campaign, a link to the LGBT Centers page and for the GoFundMe page for the Orlando tragedy. These links are wonderful resources and I would ask that you make a small donation in lieu of pattern payment. The rainbow is an important symbol of the LGBT community because it is reflects the variety of the community and the wondrous people that create it. This hat uses rainbow colors with a base and top of white with white speckled throughout. It received its name because the white flecks look both like hearts and the bubbles in pop. Also because effervescent means vivacious and enthusiastic, a great reflection of the community itself. Even though the GoFundMe page has a lot of donations remember that this is going to families that unexpectedly lost loved ones that, most likely, had no end of life plans in place. These funds are going to families to pay for medical bills for those recovering. These funds are going towards therapy for survivors and the families of victims and therapy is never a quick process. The other links are to help back organizations that are there to help, give those lost and unsure a place where they aren't alone. To back rights that others would deny anyone with an alternative lifestyle. Help by donating to keep these organizations in place. Abbreviations and Terms: k-knit p- purl k2tog- knit 2 together (_)x?- repeat ? number of times Pattern: (works from the bottom up) Brim- With size 6 circulars, cast on 90 stitches and connect. 1) k1p1 around to form the ribbing pattern. 2-4) repeat row 1 Body of the hat- switch to 8s but do not break the white y 1) With darkest color (in my case light purple) k around 2) (k1 in white, k5 in dark purple)x15 3) repeat row 1 4) (k3 in dark purple, k1 white, k2 in dark purple)x15 5) repeat row 1 6) repeat row 2 7) repeat row 1 Next Color 8) k whole row in light purple 9) (k3 in light purple, k1 white, k2 in light purple)x15 10) repeat row 8 11) (k1 in white, k5 in light purple)x15 12) repeat row 8 13) repeat row 9 14) repeat row 8 You will continue this pattern through the next 3 colors. After the last bright you will switch back to white. Crown 1) k the entire row 2) (k13, k2tog)x6 3) (k12, k2tog)x6 4) Keep repeating this decreasing pattern until you swap to DPS and then until you have 12 stitches left on your DPNs. You can bind off and weave the tail in to pull it tight or you can snip a long tail and then weave it into the last 12 stitches and pull it tight. Whichever is easiest for you, they both work and look great. Some people just prefer 1 method over another.
Alternatives
This pattern doesn't have to be done in stripes, you can work it in 2 solids or 1 solid and a variegated. Just adjust and work it so that every other row is a knit in the solid and the in between rows are alternating the (k1 in white, k5 in__)x15 and (k3 in , k1 white, k2 in __)x15. It would look great in a tweed and a solid, contrasting colors or variegated and a solid picked through it. Please help bring awareness by forwarding this pattern, the links and, most importantly, kindness. Make a beanie for yourself, for a family member or to donate. Share the love.
