ALICA Sweater Pattern: Latin-Inspired Knitting Design with Detailed Instructions and Techniques

ALICA

is Latin and means: orthography The casual sweater is knitted after a design of my daughter and the name is derived from the sweater label. Yarn used Size S: blue: ca. 410 m / 450 yards yellow: ca. 400 m / 440 yards red: ca. 415 m / 455 yards Gauge: 22 sts = 10 cm/ 4 stockinette The original is knitted in size S, but with a half instead of a 3 Sleeve. The blue front goes something over his shoulder. The armholes come complete from the back. Knitting techniques used are described in the appendix and / or linked to ideological explanations. English abbreviations used in knitting chart are translated at the end of the manual in a table, if not known. For other sizes here the marginal parameters:

For a nice bottom we start with a cast-on-l-cord consisting of 4 stitches. The connecting thread between the first to fourth loop of I-cord is included as a new stitch. If the I-cord is so long that you get 120 sts, it will be bind off or shut down for later. 1st row (wrong side), i.e., the loop receiving from the I-cord is purl. 2.row: knit 3.row: purl 4.row: knit 5.row: purl 6.row: knit 7.row: left + yarn over 8.row: let fall the yarn over + knit The rows 3-8 repeat (size S = 27x 51cm / 20 inches) The edge stitch always knit, so you get a nodule edge. From which you cast on sts for neckline and armholes again.

Neck:

Shut down the middle 60 sts. Then shut down again 1x7, 1x4 and 4x1 sts every other row. When turning take a double stitch how you do that in the shortened row. Go on for the shoulder rest 30 sts. End at 30x sample rate (row 3 to 8) = 60 cm / 23,5 inches) First knit the right shoulder, then knit the left shoulder. At the end of the last Rs for the left shoulder we cast on 4 stitches and knit on the neck, a final-l-cord. We cast on sts from the neck edge before we get to the disused sts. From the double stitch knit each leg by I-cord. On the right shoulder shut down the I-CORD-sts with the local 30 sts first.

Back (red / yellow) here 68 cm / 27 inches long

Start the back on the left shoulder. The 30 stitches are knitted with red right now. Cast on 4 sts out of the neck I-cord an knit a cast-on-iCord so you can take out of it 61 sts. On the right shoulder connect the cast-on-l-cord connected to the bindoff-I-cord by3NBO. Then knit 30 stitches on the right shoulder. Return purl over again 121 sts. (30 sts per shoulder and 61 sts from the neck). Continue as shown in the knitting chart for the back. A sample set consists of 22 stitches. The flag indicates which area, if necessary, to knit several times (see also sts numbers per size below) From the red marked center stitch then work towards the same. p over two series: in the second row, the sts is lifted with the yarn behind thework. k on two series: in the second row, the sts a sts deeper, so plugged back in the same color. For size S: After 96 rows (corresponding to 48 knots for the loop receiving the sleeve) on both sides 8 sts for example from chain row. Knit the back as long until the length of the front part without I-cord has been reached. For sewing corresponding 8 rows back - 6 rows front. Longer rounded back continue according knitting chart or following row information: 3x every 4th row, 3x every 3rd row 3x every 2nd row, 8x each row at the beginning and end of every row decrease one stitch by knitting together. Then every other row following sts shut down: 3x2 sts, 3x3 sts, 2x4 sts, 1x5, 1x6 and 1x7 sts.

Back (red / yellow) here 68 cm / 27 inches long

Purl with a WS row back to the beginning of the round. while using the disused sts and cast on sts from the edge. Knit a RS row forward to the rounding on the other side . Also there over the disused and cast on from the edge. The following WS row is used to avoid rolled edge. Explanation if not known, see video. Take sts from the Cast-on-ICORD from the front and complete the back rounding with an Bind-off-iCord. To further support to prevent the rolled edge all 5 stitches Knit 2 stitches together with the I-cord.

Sleeve (red / yellow) here 27 cm / 10,5 inches long

Cast on 108 sts like the distribution of the table on page 2 and knit in the round according knitting chart for the sleeves. Again apply the method to avoid rolled edge and finish with I-cord. Make your own variation, different size, different arm length or etc. Have fun and good luck.

Sleeves scheme for Size S (also suitable for XXL)

The sleeve is made of 7 x 14 rows in the color change. Decrease in each color change (disgtrbuted 6x k2to) This can, for example, always make in front of the color cross. At the end you get a solid line, the first bar of color is over the final course of different color.

Cast on from chain row

http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/video.php?id=89&sort=2&thumbnails=on By having a chain row at the bottom of your work you can create live loops that can be picked up afterward and be worked down, e.g. cuffs, laceborders etc. Chain the number of sts needed and add a few extra. Turn the chain row so that you have the back side with the bumps up. Pick up sts with your working yarn through each bump. Afterward you can easily pull out the chains to unzip the sts and put them back on needle.
