The Festival of Lights Wine Bottle Sweater is a festive gift wrapping perfect for the holidays. We live in an age when people are growing more concerned and conscientious about environmental issues and the need to avoid pointless waste. Stash busting, another ecologically sound and responsible choice, is an important feature to consider when knitting gift wraps, as well. Use stash or yarns left-over from other projects and turn them into beautifulgiftwrappings. SIZE: Fits standard wine bottles (approx. 9.5 inches in diameter) MATERIALS: Approx. 26g of fingering yarn: 13g (60yds) each of blue and white fingering-weight yarn 5#3DPNS Tapestryneedle One hair elasticband GAUGE: Approx. 7.5 sts per inch, but gauge is not overly critical ABBREVIATIONS: K2Tog = Knit two stitches together. INSTRUcTIoNs: Sweater is worked from the bottom up. With DPNs and leaving a 40" tail, CO 72 sts using white. (18 sts on each of 4 DPNs). Join to work in round, placing marker and being careful not to twist stitches (if using a circular needle). Using colors charted or colors you desire, knit the chart below. Once you have completed the chart through round 70, break off white and, using blue only, knit two more rounds. On the next round, k2tog around for a total of 36 sts. Work a 2x2 rib for 16 rounds to create sweater "collar."BO. Finishing: Tie and weave in or trim all color change ends at beginning and ends of rounds. Using long tail left from CO, thread needle and attach elastic band to CO round, sewing around the band to attach to all 72 sts around.
