Babysocks
Tiny toe-up socks in 2 sizes with 2 different cuffs.
These cute little babysocks are worked toe-up and give you the choice: ruffles or a picot edging? They are perfect to use up those scraps of left over sock yarn.
Materials:
Needles: a set of 3mm (US size 2.5) dpns, tapestry needle to weave in ends. Yarn: Sock yarn in two colours:-uses only approx. 100m/109y of MC & 40m/44y of CC. Shown in Mondial Ciao, 420m/100g. Gauge: 28 sts x 44 rows = 10 x 10cm/ 4 x 4" in stockinette stitch.
Sizes:
S(M): 11.5(13)cm/4,5(5)" foot circumference, 9(11)cm/3,5(4)" foot length for babies aged 3-6 (6-12)months.

Abbreviations: MC - Main Colour CC - Contrast Colour bo - bind off k - knit p-purl sl - slip yo -yarn over st(s) - stitch(es) rnd(s) - round(s) ndl(s) - needles kfb - knit same stitch from front and back kbf - knit same stitch from back and front m - k/p from strand between two sts
Instructions:
Cast on 8 sts and distribute them evenly on 4 needles. Join to knit in the round. Rnd 1: [K1, kbf, kfb, k1] twice. 12 sts Rnd 2: K1, kbf, k2, kfb, k1] twice. 16 sts Rnd 3: [K to 2 before end of ndl, kbf, k2, kfb, k to end of ndl] twice. 20 sts Rnd 4: Knit. Rnd 5: Repeat rnd 3. (24 sts) Repeat rnds 4-5 once(twice). 28(32) sts Rnds 8-9(10-11): Knit. Rnd 10(12): repeat round 2. 32(36) sts Rnds 11-12(13-14): Change to CC, knit 2 rnds. Rnds 13-17(15-19): Change to MC, knit 5 rnds. Rnds 18-19(20-21): Change to CC, knit 2 rnds. Repeat the last 7 rnds once (twice). Rnd 27(36): Change to MC, knit 1 rnd. Break CC. Heel: Knit ndl 1, turn, sl1, pull yarn to back (it should look like 2 sts), purl to end of needle 4, turn, \*sl1, pull yarn to back, knit to 1 st before slipped st, turn, sl1, pull yarn to back, purl to 1 st before slipped st, turn. Repeat from \* until there are only 6 sts between the slip sts on ndls 1 & 4 (3 sts on each). Next 2 rnds: Knit. Be careful to knit slipped sts as 1 st. Next rnd: K3 sts of ndl 1, turn, sl1, pull yarn to back, p5, turn,\*sl1, pull yarn to back, knit to slipped st, k2, turn, sl1, pull yarn to back, purl to slipped st, p2, turn\*. Repeat from \* until all sts of ndls 1&4 have been slipped, knit to end of rnd. Leg: Rnd 1: Knit. Rnd 2: Change to CC, knit 1 rnd. Rnd 3: [K2, p2] to end of rnd. Rnds 4-8: Change to MC, [k2, p2] for 5 rnds. Rnds 9-10: Change to CC, [k2, p2] for 2 rnds. Repeat the last 7 rnds twice. Rnds 25-29: Change to MC, [k2,p2] for 5 rnds. Work your preferred edging. Work second sock. Picot: Bo 2, \*slip bound off st back to left needle, cable cast on 2 sts, bo 4. Repeat from \* until all sts have been bound off.
Ruffle:
Rnd 1: Change to CC, [k2, p2] to end of rnd. Rnd 2: [K1, m1, k1, p1, m1, p1] to end of rnd. Rnd 3: [K3, m1, p3, m1] to end of rnd. Rnd 4: [K4, p4] to end of rnd. Rnd 5: \*Bo1, yo, bo yo, repeat from \* until all sts are bound off.
Knitting the heel:
After turning your work, slip the first stitch and pull the working yarn away from you. The stitch should look like the stitch pictured here.
When you have to work the slipped st, be careful to work the ,doublestitch" just as the 1 st it is.
