The "Done by Halloween" Harry Potter House Scarf
By Abby Tohline Skill Level: Easy Skills Needed: Knit, Purl It seems like every year when Halloween time rolls around, I wait until the last second to find a costume, and then I'm left scrambling to find something at the last minute.

So, for those of you who are like me, here is a pattern for a quick and easy Harry Potter scarf for you to knit up in the house colors of your choice. Just run over to your nearest Hobby Lobby or Local Yarn Store, grab the correct colors, and you can have this scarf done in several weeks, or even a weekend if you're really fast.! It is knit entirely in seed stitch so that there is no right side or wrong side and so it willalso lay flat. Perfectly quick and easy! Then, after Halloween, you can wear it all winter long to keep your neck cozy! Size: One size fits all
Finished Measurements: 5" wide and 70" long
Gauge: 17 sts $\mathrm{~x~}28\;\mathrm{rows}=4\;^{\prime}$ in seed stitch

Materials:
--The worsted weight yarn in the House colors of your choice. Red Heart or I Love this Yarn work really well for acrylic yarns, and Cascade 220 or Knitpicks Worsted yarns work well for wool as far as color choice goes. The "Main color" is the color that you want to be on either end of the scarf. Generally the colors for each house are: Gryffindor: Scarlet/burgundy (MC) and Gold (CC) Ravenclaw: Blue (MC) and Bronze (CC) Hufflepuff: Yellow/Gold (MC) and Black (CC) Slytherin: Green (MC), and Silver (CC) You may, however, switch the MC and CC if you prefer. --Size 9 US straight needles --crochet hook of approximately the same size as the knitting needles. --tapestry needle for weaving in ends --a paperback book or DVD case to measure tassels
Directions:
Cast on 23 stitches in Main Color (MC) $\mathrm{}^{*}\mathrm{K}1$ , $\mathrm{P}1^{*}$ every row for 30 rows. Change colors to Contrasting Color (CC) $\mathrm{}^{*}\mathrm{K}1$ , $\mathrm{P}1^{*}$ every row for 30 rows. Change colors to MC. $\mathrm{}^{*}\mathrm{K}1$ , $\mathrm{P}1^{*}$ every row for 30 rows.

Repeat this until there are 15 colorblocks total, 8 of MC and 7 of CC. Weave in ends.
Tassels:
Wrap yarn around book or DVD case 30 times for MC and 20 times for CC. Cut along one side. This should make 50 equal length strands. Take 5 of these equal length strands in a bundle and fold them in half. Using the crochet hook, pullthe loop (where it's folded in half) partway through the corner of one end (see picture). Pull ends through the loop and tighten. This is how to make one tassel.

Make one tassel in the MC on each side of each end and one in the middle of each end. Then, using CC, make one tassel between each MC tassel. (5 tassels total on each end of scarf-—-3 in MC and 2 in CC). You're done!
