Work Order
Makegartercollar: CO6sts. Work in garter st for 96 rows (48 garter ridges = about 22cm), beginning every row with a slip st and ending it with a knit st. Bind off 5sts = 1 st. The garter collar is complete. You have 1 live st. Then work on yoke: Pick up sts along the edge, 1 st at every "knob" on the edge = 49sts. Row 1 (RS): sl, k to the end of row, ending with a knit st. (Begin all rows with a slip, and knit the last st) Row 2: sl, k4, p1, (p2, yo) \* repeat until 7 sts to the end of row, p2, k5. = 67sts Row 3: sl, k to the end of row. Row 4: sl, k to the end of row. Then establishFeather pattern: Row 5 (RS): sl, k4, work row 5 of feather pattern until 5 sts to the end of row, k5. = 95sts Row 6 (ws): sl, k4, work row 6 of feather pattern until 5 sts to the end of row, k5. Then continue working in pattern as established, working first 5sts and last 5sts of every row in garter st, and for all the sts in between working in the feather pattern. After completing row 26 of the feather pattern, you have 235sts. Then put in 4 rows in st st, maintaining the garter border on sides Row 27: sl, k to the end of row. Row 28: sl, k4, p until 5 sts to the end of row, k5. Row 29: sl, k to the end of row. Row 30: sl, k4, p until 5 sts to the end of row, k5. Inen establish Dots pattern: Next RS row: sl, k4, then work row 1 of dots pattern, ending the row with at least 5 knit sts. Next WS row: sl, k4, p until 5 sts to the end of row, k5. Then continue working in pattern as established, working first 5sts and last 5sts of every row in garter st as before, and for all the sts in between working in the dots pattern. Go on working until the piece measures 10cm from the garter collar, ending with a WS row. Break the yarn. Then split for body and sleeves: Place split ring markers between your sts as follows: 34sts, PM, 50sts, PM, 67sts, PM, 50sts, PM, 34sts.
Then perform the sleeves:
ars so that you will work on RS of one sleeve - the 50sts between the 1st and 2nd markers Set up the sleeve row (Rs): take the work yarn, cast on 6sts, then work those 50sts continuing the dots pattern, then cast on 6 sts more, and turn the knitting to make the WS row. = 62sts Next row (ws): sl, purl until 1 st to the end of the sleeve row, k1. Go on working on these 62sts, working in dots pattern as you did on those sts before (include the newly cast on sts in the dots pattern as well, or leave them in stockinette stitch - as you choose). Decrease 1 st on every side on every 10th row, 6 times. Work in the patt as established until the sleeve measures 16cm from the split, ending with the row 10 or row 20 of the dots pattern. Work next row (Rs): sl, k4, (k2tog, k5) \* repeat until 5 sts to the end of row, k5. Work 10 rows in garter st on all sts, ending with a RS row. Bind off all sts, break the yarn. Repeat this for the second sleeve, 50sts between 3rd and 4th markers. Remove all markers. Shift the sts on the circulars so that you will work on the RS of the body, starting from the garter border. Join the work yarn to the bit you've broken before starting to work on the sleeves. Set up the body row (RS): sl, k4, work 29sts continuing the dots pattern, cast on 10sts, work 67sts continuing the dots pattern, cast on 10sts, work 29sts continuing the dots pattern, k5. = 155sts Then continue working in patt as established, including two pieces of just cast on sts into dots pattern. Work in patt until the body measures 16cm from the split, ending with the row 10 or row 20 of the dots pattern. Work next RS row: sl, k4, (k2tog, k5) \* repeat until 5 sts to the end of row, k5. Work 10 rows in garter st on all sts, ending with a RS row. Bind off all sts, break the yarn.
Finishing:
Sew the sleeve seams and the holes in the armpits. Weave in the tails. Cut the cotton ribbon in two halves. Sew in one half of the ribbon on the inside of both vertical garter bands along the front openings. It will strengthen the fastening band. Sew the snap-fasteners onto those bands.
