Cast on 40 stitches. Divide on double pointed needles as follows: 10 stitches on frst needle, 20 stitches on second needle, 10 stitches on third needle. Work 1x1 rib for 5 rows. Work 3 rows stocking stitch to set up for lace pattern. Work 16 rows ofleft lace pattern. Start thumb gusset. The thumb gusset will replace the last 5 stitches of the lace pattern. First row: Work lace pattern until last 5 stitches. pl,kfb, kl, kfb, pl. Next 3 rows: Work lace pattern until last 7 stitches. pl, k5, pl. Fifth row: Work lace pattern until last 7 stitches. pl, kfb, k3, kfb, pl. Work in this manner, increasing every 4th row until there are 50 stitches total. Work I row even.
