MATERIALS
Manos del Uruguay SERENA (60% baby alpaca, 40% pima cotton; approx. 50g/170 yds) (MC), 3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4) sk Manos del Uruguay MAXIMA (l00% extra fine merino wool; 100g/219 yds) (CC), I (l, I, I, I, I, 1) sk. Shown in #S2590 Natural (MC) and #M2349 Oxygen (CC). US #7/4.5mm 24 (32, 32, 32, 40, 40, 40)" circular needle and I6"' circular needle, or size to obtain gauge. two differently colored ring markers 2 large stitch holders GAUGE 18 stitches and 27 rounds/rows = 4" over Stripe Pattern. STITCH GUIDE Stripe Pattern (over any number of stitches) Worked in the round: Rounds I-I4:With MC, knit. Change to CC, but do not break MC. Rnd 15: Knit. Rnd I6: Purl. Break CC and change back to MC. Repeat Rounds I-l6 for pattern. Worked Flat: Rows I, 3, 5, 7,9, II and I3 (WS):WVith MC, purl. Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 (RS): WVith MC, knit. Change to CC, but do not break MC. Row 15 (WS): Purl. Row 16 (RS): Purl Break CC and change back to MC. Repeat Rows I-l6 for pattern. Cable Cast-on Method: Hold needles so yarn is attached to left needle. \*Insert right-hand needle knitwise into first stitch on left-hand needle, wrap the yarn around the needle and pull through as to make a knit stitch, leaving the first stitch on the left hand needle. Slip the stitch just made onto the left hand needle; repeat from \* for required number of stitches. Three-Needle BO: Slip the stitches from holders onto each of 2 needles. With the right sides held together (to form ridge on inside of garment), hold the needles parallel. With a third needle, knit the first stitch of the front and back needles together, \*knit next stitch from each needle together (2 stitches on right-hand needle), bind off I stitch; repeat from \* until all stitches are bound off. Split Back from Front, and Cast On Sleeves Remove beg of round marker, turn. Row I (WS): Use the cable method and same color yarn as last row to cast on I2 stitches, work next row of Stripe Pattern to side marker, remove marker, turn. Row 2 (RS): Use the cable method and same color yarn as last row to cast on I2 stitches, work next row of Stripe Pattern to end of row, turn. [96 (106, 114, 124, 132, 142, 150) stitches for back] Place the stitches for the front onto a stitch holder or waste yarn and continue working back and forth on the back stitches Only. FRONT
Return 72 (82, 90, 100, 108, 118, 126) held front stitches onto longer circular needle and attach yarn to beg working a WS row. Neck Shaping
Work 45 (50, 54, 59, 63, 68, 72) stitches in Stripe Pattern, ssk, kl, join a second ball of yarn, kl, k2tog, work in Stripe Pattern to end. [47 (52, 56,61,65, 70, 74) stitches on each side] Continue working both sides at the same time, with separate balls of yarn, as follows: Row I (WS): WWork in Stripe Pattern to neck edge; on other side: work in Stripe Pattern to end of row. Row 2 (RS): Vork in Stripe Pattern to 3 stitches before neck edge, ssk, kl; on other side, kl, k2tog, work in Stripe Pattern to end. Repeat the last 2 rows 15 (16, 16, 17, 17, 19, 19) more times. [31 (35, 39, 43, 47, 50, 54) stitches on each side] Work even until piece measures 6% (7%, 734, 8%4, 834, 9%4, 934)" from sleeve cast-on, ending after a WS row. FINISHING
Use the three needle bind-off to join right front shoulder to right back shoulder, then join left front shoulder to left back shoulder. Sew underarm seams. Block piece to measurements.
Neck Trim
With CC and I6" circular needle, beg at right shoulder Pick up and knit 6 stitches to back neck bound-off stitches, 16 (17, 17, 18, I8, 21, 21) stitches across bound-off stitches, 6 stitches to left shoulder seam, 30 (33, 33, 35, 35, 37,37) stitches along left front, then 30 (33, 33, 35, 35, 37, 37) stitches along right front to shoulder seam. [88 (95,95, 100, 100, 107, 107) stitches] Pm to indicated beg of round. Purl I round. Bind off loosely knitwise. Weave in ends.
