1 ball of DK weight yarn - I used about 200 yds of a ball of a cheap 100g acrylic yarn that cost under f1 but you could use any yarn you like that fits the gauge. Yarn in photo is Jumbo DK shade 029842 multi rainbow bright 100g ball -300yds Gauge: on 2.5mm Dpn's or size needles to get the correct gauge 7st $\times\,8$ rows per inch. Yes I know DK is usually done on much larger needles but I wanted a very firm fabric that as you can see virtually stands up by its self :-) f you have any problems with the pattern do not hesitate to contact me and I will see what I can do to help you. Switch to stocking stitch ( stockinette) and work 3 rounds. If you want to make the socks longer just continue the cuff until it is the length you require before dividing for the heel flap. Working the Heel flap: Knit across the first 32 st of the round in the following manner S1, K1, repeat until you have 32 st on 1 needle. Place the remaining 32 st on wate yarn or stitch holders (or if you are feeling particularly brave leave them hanging on their dpn's until you are ready for them) Turn your work and purl back across the 32 st on your needle. Repeat these two rows a further 14 times. Turn the heel: Knit across 19 st of the heel flap then K the next 2 st together K1 turn work. Next row: Slip 1 st purl 6 st, P2 tog, P1, turn work Next Row: Slip 1 st, knit to within 1 st of the last row, K2tog, K1 turn work Continue shaping the heel in this manner until all the heel flap stitches have been incorporated, finishing with a right side (knit) row. Pick up the stitches for the gusset: Pick up 15 st along the left hand side of the gusset, Using more Dpn's knit across the stitches that were being held on the stich holders ( or their needles) pick up 15 st along the right hand

side of the gusset. divide the gusset and remaining heel stitches equally between two dpn's. Shape the gusset: Row 1: knit to within 3 st of the first gusset needle, K2 tog K1, knit across the two instep needles and then at the beginning of the other gusset needle k1, ssk, knit to end of needle. Row 2: Knit entire round. Continue knitting these two rounds until you have 16 stitches left on each gusset needle. Next row: Work decreases for gusset as previous rows but also decreas 1 st on each of the instep needle by working k8, ssk knit to end of first needle, K7, K2tog, knit to end of needle. Repeat this row one further time to leave you with 14 st on each needle ( 56st in all) Continue working on these stitches with no further decreases until the foot of you sock is the required length.

Knit to the end of needle 1 (left hand side of the bottom of the foot). Place the last 8 st of this needle on one Dpn and the first 8 st of the next needle on a second Dpn. Place the rest of the stitches onto waste yarn ( trust me you don't want spare needles or stitch holders getting in the way).

Pick up 2 st from the bottom edge of the big toe, knit across the first 5 st, cast on 2 st as for the big toe, knit across the remaining 5 st ( 14 st in all). Knit 11 rounds, Decrease by k2tog across the entire round (7st), break off yarn and thread the tail end through all remaining stitches, draw tight and fasten off securely.
Middle toe:
