24 st. Work setup row once. Work patt row, repeating that row until work measures 4".
Materials:
1 ball Mango Moon Pastiche and 1 ball each of 2 complimentary colors of Capra Alternatively, use 1 Capra, held double (Shown in Lunar Pastiche and Heron and Storm Capra) Size 8 needles Gauge: piece should measure 7.5" wide unstretched, but the best test is to check it on your own wrist. Note: All sl sts are sl as to p. Set up row: \*yf, sl 1, kl; rep fr \* to end. Pattern row: \*yf, sl 1, k2tog; rep fr \* to end. Completing the k2tog creates a yo. Directions: Make 2. Using 1 strand of Pastiche and 2 strands of Capra Thumb Increase: yf, sl 1, k2tog, lift the st below the next st to the left needle and kf&b (inc 2), \*yf, sl 1, k2tog\* to last 3 st, lift the st below the next st to the left needle and kf&b (inc 2), yf, sl 1, k2tog. (28 st) Note that on the return row, there will be no yo with which to knit the second new st. Simply k1 and proceed; all willbe back to normal on the next row. Work 2" in patt after thumb increase. Next row: Work first 6 st in patt and move to stitch holder; work acr to last 6 st, and move those to a stitch holder. Work center section for 1 1%2-2". BO very loosely in (p1, k2tog) acr. Break yarn. Thumb: Place the 12 thumb st on needle, arranging them so that the eventual seam will be on the outside of the thumb (it will be a continuous seam from wrist edge to top of thumb). Beg w a RS row, attach yarn and work patt row 5 times. BO very loosely in (p1, k2tog) acr. Finishing: Sew a mattress seam up from the wrist edge to the top of the thumb. Sew up the seam above the thumb, starting at the top edge and finishing with a couple of well-placed reinforcing stitches at the bottom of the thumb so the mitts will wearwell.
