Sonatina Baby Dress

Designed exclusively for Brown Sheep Company by Karen Semo A simple baby dress for spring. The mock cable pattern of the yoke adds shaping and fit.

SIZE

Baby's 3 (6, 9, 12, 18) months. Instructions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes. Model shown in size 18 months.

MATERIALS

· Brown Sheep Wildfoote Luxury Sock Yarn, 75% washable wool, 25% nylon (50g/215 yds per skein): 2 (3, 3, 3, 3) skeins #SY800 Sonatina · Size 0 (2 mm) needles · Size 2 (2.75 mm) 16" circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge ·Stitch markers and holders Super Fine Size C/2 (2.75 mm) crochet hook

GAUGE

30 sts and 36 rows = 4" in St st with larger needles To save time and ensure proper fit, take time to check gauge.

STITCH GLOSSARY

RT (Right Twist): K2tog leaving sts on LH needle, knit first st again, sl both sts from needle. M1 (Make 1): Make a backwards loop and place on RH needle. 2/2MockCable Row 1 (RS): P2, \*k2, p2; rep from \* to end of row. Rows 2 and 4: K2, \*p2, k2; rep from \* to end of row. Row 3: P2, \*RT, p2; rep from \* to end of row. Rep Rows 1-4 for pat. 2/2 Rib All Rows \*K2, p2; rep from \* across row.

SKIRT

With larger needies, cast on 144 (152, 160, 172, 180) sts. Join without twisting, placing marker between first and last st. [Knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd] 5 times; purl 1 rnd. Work even in St st until skirt measures 8% (9%2, 10%2, 11 14, 12)" from beg. Note: length can be adjusted here if desired.

Divide for fronts and back

Next rnd: Bind off 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts, knit next 68 (70, 74, 78, 82) sts and sl to holder for front, bind off 4 (6, 6, 8, 8) sts for right underarm, knit next 68 (70,74, 78, 82) sts, bind off remaining 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts. Cut yarn.

BACK

With RS facing, rejoin yarn at right underarm. Work in rows from this point. Work even in 2/2 Mock Cable pat for 2% (3, 3, 3%4, 3%2)", ending with a WS row. Shape back neck and shoulders Mark center 12 (14, 14, 18, 22) sts. Next row (Rs): Work in pat to marker, join second ball of yarn and bind off marked sts, work in pat to end of row. Working on both sides of neck with separate balls of yarn, bind off at each neck edge 8 (8, 10, 10, 10) sts once - 20 sts. Work 1 row even. Bind off all sts.

FRONT

Sl sts from holder to larger needle. With RS facing, join yarn at left underarm. Work even in Mock cable pat for 1% (112, 1%2, 13%4, 2)", ending with a WS row. Shape front neck Mark center 12 (14, 14, 18, 22) sts. Next row (Rs): Work in pat to marker, join second ball of yarn and bind off marked sts, work in pat to end of row. Working on both sides of neck with separate balls of yarn, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge until 20 sts remain on each side. Work even until armhole measures 3% (31%2, 3%, 3%, 4) above bound-off underarm sts. Bind off all sts in pat. Cut yarn, leaving a long end. Sew shoulder seams.

NECK EDGING

Work 1 row sc around neckline, making sure to keep work flat.

SLEEVES

With smaller needles, cast on 52 (56, 60, 64, 68) sts. Work even in 2/2 Rib for %2", ending with a WS row. Change to larger needles. Inc Row (RS): K1, \*M1, k1; rep from \* across row - 103 (111,119, 127, 135) sts. Work even in St st for 2 (21%, 2%2, 2%, 3)" from beg, ending with a WS row. Next Row (RS): K3tog across row, ending with k 1 (0, 2, 1, O). Note: use smaller needle to make binding off easier. Bind off all sts.

ASSEMBLY
