Materials :

Diamond Yarns Inc. Baby Alpaca Sport, one skein of each colour. Hat shown in colours 100 (cream) and 6019 (brown) 5mm 4ocm circular needle, and DPN's (or size needed to obtain gauge) 5.5mm crochet hook Gauge: 18 stitches and 28 rows over $\acute{4}$ inches. Be sure to check your gauge in both stockinette and fair-isle, as fair isle tends to be tighter. Finished Measurements: 22 inches around, after blocking Notes : This hatis knit in fair-ise. Be sure to carry your yarn lightlybehind the working yarn, being careful not to pull the stitches together. with circular needle, co 8 sts. row I : purl row 2: K1, inc. 1, knit to last two stitches, inc. 1, kI Repeat these two rows three more times, until earflap has 16sts. work in stockinette stitch for two rows, ending with a purl row. next row : work earflap chart (4 rows) work in stockinette stitchformore rows, ending with a purl row. Place allstitches on a stitch holr Make second earflap the same way, leaving it on the needles when finished.

Hat:

Knit the 16 sts from the carlap on the needle. C 32 sts using the knied-on, orcable casto. Knit the16 sts frm the second earflap CO 32 sts using the knitted-on, or cable cast on. (96sts) Join to work in the round, beng careful nt to twist, and making sure that the earfaps right sides are facing out. Work g rows stockinettest. Rows 10-29: work hat chart, being careful to keep tension even between colours. Next row: [knit $24$ aa some way, so you know it's the beginning of the round. Shape Crown: Row 1: [K2tog, k to two stitches before marker, SSK, slip marker] to end of row Row 2: Knit repeat these two rows until there are 8 sts. left. Next row: K2tog 4 times. Draw 4 remaining stitches together on a tapestry needle, and close hole. Finishing: With the crochethook, single crochet around the bottom ofthe hat and the earflaps. Make two 5st. chains and attach to the bottom of the earflaps, add a tassle to each. Weave in ends Wet block, pinning bottom ofhat and earflaps flat. Wait until completely dry, and remove.
