
Nereus Cuculla
A Cowl Pattern by Stephanie Stratton LunabudKnits 1 skein of Mare or Irish Helen lace yarns or 500 yards of a lace weight yarn NeedlesUS3 Using Provisional Cast-On, CO 90. Notes: Gauge is not very important as Cuculla is a cowl meant to wrap around the neck or drape over one's head when worn. To increase the width of the pattern, increase Cast On with multiples of 3. Original sample was a Longtail CO which was then seamed after normal BO.
Row 1-
P5, k2, p6, k2, place marker, k2 \*yo, k3: insert point of left hand needle from left to right into the top of the first of the 3 k sts and lift it over the other two sts and off the right hand needle (as if to psso after the fact)\* Repeat from \* to \* until 16 stitches remain, k1, place marker, k2, p6, k2 p5.
Row 2 -
k5, p2, \* k2tog but do not drop from left hand needle; k the first st again and slip both together from the needle\* repeat from \*to\* 2 more times, p2, slip marker, k to marker, p2, \* k2tog but do not drop from left hand needle; k the first st again and slip both together from the needle\* repeat from \*to\* 2 more times, p2, k5.
Row 3 -
P5, k2, p6, k2, Slip Marker, K1, \*k3 take first st over the other 2 as before, yo\* repeat from \*to\*, k2 before marker, k2, p6, k2 p5.
Row 4-
K5, P2, k1, \*k2tog and k first st again as in row 2\* repeat from \*to\* one more time, k1, p2, Slip Marker, knit to second marker, p2, k1, \*k2tog and k first st again as in row 2\* repeat from \*to\* one more time, k1, p2, k5.
Row 5 -
P5, k2, p6, k2, slip marker, k2 \*yo, k3: insert point of left hand needle from left to right into the top of the first of the 3 k sts and lift it over the other two and off the right hand needle (as if to psso)\* Repeat from \* to \* k1 before the marker) k2, p6, k2 p5. Repeat rows 2-5 until desired length. Catch live stitches from Provisional Cast On and Bind Off using 3 stitch BO or Kitchner.
