Big Silk Cowl

by Helen Cosgrove-Davies We wanted a simple cowl that would use up the majority of a skein of our new base, Big Silk. The cowl should be squisy and cozy, and a very simple knit. This is what I came up with!

Materials

One Skein Miss Babs Big Silk 540 yds/skein, 60% Merino, 40% Cultivated Silk US Size 7 DPNs US Size 9 32" Circular Stitch Marker Tapestry Needle

Gauge

Unimportant; make sure you like the fabric you get in garter stitch with the larger needle.

Instructions

Cast on 4 stitches Work I-cord on smaller needles until you can make a circle the same circumference as you want the cowl to be. The sample has 290 rows of I-Cord Knit 4 together. DO NOT CUT YARN! Change to the larger needles, and, working back along the length of the I-cord, pick up 4 stitches for every 5 rows of I-cord. The sample has 232 stitches. Place marker, and join to knit in the round. Work in garter stitch until the cowl is the width you want it to be, or until there is only a small ball of yarn left. The sample had 34 ridges. Work an I-cord bind-off as follows: Cast 4 stitches onto a DPN. Without turning, knit three stitces, knit the last stitch together with one stitch from the body of the cowl. Continue in this manner until all the stitches are bound off. Graft ends of I-cord together, weave in ends. Block if desired. Sample used all but this little ball:
