Luca Cowl Pattern: A Multi-Section Knitting Design with Herringbone, Basketweave, and Cable Details

Luca is a cowl with 4 sections, bordered by 3 rows of herringbone stiches. The ^double linen stich'section and the \*herringbone' section will stabilize yourcowl. The first and the third section can be snuggled around your neck, rolled up for warmth outdoors or rolled down for an upgrade of a sweater/shirt indoors. he cabled section will flare out for a perfect fit on your shoulders

Please note: The ^herringbone' and the ^double linen stich' sections are a tight knit. 2-3 neddle sizes more, than suggested on the yarn's banderole is a good choice. For orientation, a placemarker at the beginning of each round is most recommended.

Directions:

CO 80 sts (multiples of 5, even number of stiches) Join into the round without twisting.

Section 1:

Work in K2, P2 rib for 1 round. Work in P2, K2 for the second round. Repeat 6 times for a total of 12 rounds.

Section 2: herringbone

Round 1: K one round. Round 2: \*K2tog and slip only the first stich off the left needle\*, repeat from \* until 1 stiche remains. sm. Round 3: \* K2tog through the back loop (K2tog tbl), slipping the first stich off the left needle, repeat from \* to last stich. Round 4: K one round. Section 3: Basketweave section Round 1-3: \*K2, P3\* repeat from \* to last stich. Round 4-6: \*P2, K3\* repeat from \* to last stich. (..another option is a regular 'linen stich'(= pattern of round 1 for the next 9 rounds. It is a more conveniant knit and looks pretty too!) Round 1: \*K1, slip stich knitwise with yarn in front (wyif)\* repeat from \* to \* until last stich of the round. Round 2: \*slip stich purlwise with yarn in the back (wyib), P1\*, repeat from \*to\* until last stich of the round. Round 3, 5, 7 & 9 : Repeat round 1. Round 4, 6, & 8 : Repeat round 2.

Section 6: herringbone (see section 2)

Section 7: Cable section 2,4,5,7,8,10,11,12,13,14: \*P3, K2\* repeat until last stich Round 3: \*P3, C2F\* repeat until last stich. Round 6: \*P3, C2B\* repeat until last stich. Round 9: \*P3, C2F\* repeat until last stich. Strechy bind off: K1\*YO, K1, pass the YO over the K1, pass the first K1 over the remaining, second K1\*. Repeat. The point of the stretchy edge is to permit the cowl to flare out when it sits on top of your shoulders, eliminating any gap between the cowl, your neck and your sweater, shirt, jacket or coat.
