Heel Flap

Row 1 (RS) Slip 1, k1, transfer these two stitches to waste yarn or small stitch holder, slip 1, k31, turn. Place remaining 38 stitches onto waste yarn or another stitch holder - 32 flap stitches. Row 2 (WS) Slip 1, p31, turn. Working flap stitches only, repeat [Rows 1 and 2] 13 times 28 flap rows.

Heel Turn

Row 1 (RS) Slip 1, k18, ssk, k1, turn, leaving 10 stitches unworked. Row 2 (WS) Slip 1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn, leaving 10 stitches unworked. Row 3 Slip 1, knit to 1 stitch before gap formed on previous row, ssk, [1 stitch from each side of gap], k1, turn. Row 4 Slip 1, purl to 1 stitch before gap formed on previous row, p2tog, [1 stitch from each side of gap], p1, turn. Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until all heel stitches have been worked, ending with a WS row - 20 heel stitches remain.

Gusset

Row 1 (Rs) Knit to the end of the heel; pick up and knit 16 stitches along the side of the flap, from stitches on holder, knit to next marker, work Row 3 of stitch pattern, ending with p2, k2. Foot

Slipping the first stitch of every row, work bottom of foot even in stockinette stitch and instep stitches in established pattern, until foot measures about 7" from the back of the heel, or about 1%" shorter than desired length.

Round Toe

Setup Row (RS) Slip 1, k5, k2tog, place marker, \*k6, k2tog, repeat to end - 63 stitches. Continuing in stockinette stitch, work 5 rows even. Decrease row (RS) Slip 1, \*knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker, repeat from \* to end - 54 stitches. Repeat Decrease Row every 6th row twice, every 4th row once, then every RS row once, ending with a WS row—18 stitches. Next Row Slip 1, k1, k2tog 8 times —- 9 stitches. Last Row Slip 1, p6 (7), ssp —- 8 stitches. Measure the yarn out to about five times the length of sock and cut. Using a yarn needle, thread the tail through all stitches and pull tight. Don't cut the yarn yet; the rest is used for seaming.

Seam

Fold the sock with wrong sides together. Match up the slipped edge stitches and pin in place. Using the crochet hook, slip stitch knitwise from the front into each corresponding set of stitches up to the top of the cuff to close the seam. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Block as desired.

RIGHT SOCK

Cuff

Cast on 60 stitches. Row 1 (RS) Slip 1, \*p2, k2, repeat from \* to last 3 stitches, p2, k1. Row 2 (WS) Slip 1, \*k2, p2, repeat from \* to last 3 stitches, k2, p1. Repeat Rows 1 and 2, two more times for 6 rows. Row 7 Slip 1, YO, p2, YO, \*K2, YO, p2, YO repeat from \* 5 times, k1, place marker, knit 36 —72 stitches. Row 8 Slip 1, purl to marker, p2, k2, \*p4, k2, repeat from \* to end.

Heel Flap

Row 3 Slip 1, work in established pattern to marker, k3, ssk, knit to last 5 stitches, k2tog, k3- 90 stitches. Row 4 Slip 1, purl across heel and gusset stitches to marker, work in stitch pattern to end of row. Repeat [Rows 3 and 4] 8 times to decrease gusset stitches while at the same times following stitch pattern for instep stitches - 72 stitches. Complete as for Left Sock until Round Toe is complete.

Seam

Fold the sock with wrong sides together. Match up the slipped edge stitches and pin in place. Using the crochet hook, slip stitch purlwise from the back into each corresponding set of stitches up to the top of the cuff to close the seam. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Block as desired.
