SPRING SNOWSHAWL

330 yds. bulky wt. novelty mohair-blend yarn (label code 5) (sample shown in Lion Brand “Moonlight Mohair", color Coral Reef) NOTE: if you want a larger shawl, purchase additional yarn. Size K/10.5 (6.5 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to achieve gauge Tapestry needle Gauge: 3 dc = 1", 3 pattern rows = 4" on size K/10.5 (6.5 mm) hook

Shawl is worked lengthwise in ripple-style stitch pattern. Since this is a narrow shawl, it can also be worn as a wide scarf. Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), chain (ch), double crochet (dc), hook (hk), repeat (rep), single crochet (sc), skip (sk), slip stitch (sl st), space (sp), stitch (st), triple crochet (trc) Shawl Note: if fringe is desired, set aside 11 yds. of yarn to be used later. Row 1 (RS): Ch 30, dc in 4th ch from hk, dc in next ch, \*sk 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, rep from \* twice, end with sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, 2 dc in last ch, turn (27 dc, 4 sps) Row 2 (WS): Ch 4, trc in same st at base of ch-4, trc in next dc, \*sk 2 dc, trc in next 2 dc, 3 trc in next dc, trc in next 2 dc, rep from \* twice, end with sk 2 dc, trc in next dc, 2 trc in top of turning ch, turn (27 trc) Row 3 (RS): Ch 3, dc in same st at base of ch-3, dc in next trc, \*sk 2 trc, dc in next 2 trc, 3 dc in next trc, dc in next 2 trc, rep from \* twice, end with sk 2 trc, dc in next trc, 2 dc in top of turning ch, turn (27 dc) Rep Rows 2-3 until piece measures approx. 6" from beg, or until yarn is almost gone, or to desired length if additional yarn has been purchased. Fasten off and weave in tails. Fringe: Wrap reserved yarn around a 6" measure 32 times. Cut strands at one end of wrap. Using 4 strands for each fringe, attach to shawl ends in each of the 4 openings formed by skipping 2 sts. Fold bundle of strands in half, insert crochet hook into space at end of shawl, pull loop through space, then pull ends of fringe through loop on hook. Tighten knot. Finishing: If desired, lightly block shawl by dampening it with cool to lukewarm water, then roll in towel to absorb excess moisture. Spread dry towels out on a flat space, lay shawl on top of towel and smooth out openwork pattern. Cover with more towels and leave to dry.
