Summer Jellyfish

By Teresa Alvarez (July 2012) About copyright: It's really something great when people like what I have designed. You can sell the final item or whatever you like, but it would be nice to reference where you found the pattern! If there is anything you do not understand or there are any mistakes, please, send me a message! As you can see in the way I write, English is not my first language. So, you could come across some mistakes and grammatical inconsistencies?. Sorry and my apologies! This is the second jellyfish I've designed. If we compare the two, this has a simple bell and few arms and tentacles. Also, the outer edge is different. This time I went for a multicolored bell and solid body. I have used to different shades of yarn: one brighter and multicolored for the bell and some tentacles/arms and one solid for the body. Any colour combination would work fine.
ABOUTYARN:
Any yarn would do nicely. I've used (part of @) 2 skeins of Anchor Style (Creativa for the monochrome parts and Magicline for the striped hook. (Yardage: 50gr=70meters). ABOUT GAUGE: It is not important, as far as you are consistent with your tension. ABOUTHOOK: It depends on the yarn. I've used a 4 mm hook. YOU WILL NEED: Yarn. Two black eyes. Stuffing. Tapestry needle.
ABOUTCROCHETTERMS:
I've followed the US terminology. Stitch: st Chain: ch Slip stitch: sl st Single crochet: sc FLO: Front Loop Only BLO: Back Loop Only Sc2tog: decreasing two sc Slst2tog: using a sl st to decrease as in sc2tog
ABOUTTHEPATTERN:
All the pattern is worked in spirals, so do not join at the end/beginning of a row unless otherwise stated. (Comment: although the increases are placed (more or less) at the same place, you can scatter them to give a more circular approach, see one of my patterns: the blue angry bird in space).
Body Arms and Tentacles
The body is worked first and then the hood. The tentacles and arms are worked at the same time than the body. Body's colour: fuchsia. Tentacle: ch 50, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and all the way back, sl st at the base. Arm: ch 60, 3dc in 2"d ch from hook and in each st across. Sl st at the base.
Using pink:
Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook). Round 2: 2sc in next 6 st, (12 sts) Round 3: [2sc in next stitch, 1sc in next st.] repeat 6 times (18 sts) Round 4: 2sc in next stitch, sc in next st, tentacle, sc in next st, 2sc in next stitch, 2sc in next st.] repeat 3 times (24 sts and three tentacles @) Round 5: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 3st.] repeat 6 times (30 sts) Round 6: [2sc in next stitch, sc and arm in striped yarn, sc in next 3st, 2sc in next stitch, sc in next 4sts.] repeat 3 times (36 sts) Round 7: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 5st.] repeat 6 times (42 sts) Round 8: [2sc in next stitch, sc and tentacle in pink, sc in next 5st., 2sc in next stitch, sc in next 6sts.] repeat 3 times (48 sts) Round 9: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 7st.] repeat 6 times (54 sts) Round 10-11: sc in each st across (54 sts) Fasten off
Hood or bell
Using the striped yarn:
Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook). Round 2: 2sc in next 6 st, (12 sts) Round 3: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next st.] repeat 6 times (18 sts) Round 4: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 2st.] repeat 6 times (24 sts) Round 5: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 3st.] repeat 6 times (30 sts) Round 6: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 4st.] repeat 6 times (36 sts) Round 7: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 5st.] repeat 6 times (42 sts) Round 8: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 6st.] repeat 6 times (48 sts) Round 9: [2sc in next stitch, sc in next 7st.] repeat 6 times (54 sts) Round 10: the body is joined/sewn/crocheted at this row. I like to sc in each st across but going through the stitches of row 9 and the last row of the body. Stuff as you go. If you prefer, you can sew the body later. (54 sts)
