Zig-Zag Baby Hat Kalyani

Yarn: Plymouth DreamBaby DK (ballis 50g - 180yd, I used 22g - 80.5y for the hat before I added the pom-pom then lost the rest of the ball, so I cannot be sure how much the pom-pom took.) Needles: #4 US (3.5 mm) Gauge: 26 st x 32 r = 4" square in stockinette stitch

Cast on 80 stitches (l use one size larger needle, #5 in this case, to cast on for a ribbing because I tend to cast on too tightly to get a good stretch otherwise, do whatever works for you.) and join in round, being careful not to twist. Work in K2 P2 rib (as in row 0 of chart) for 3" work Baby Hat Chart rows 1 - 40 [10 chart repeats] Row 41: K2tog around (5 stitches remaining) Cut yarn, leaving a tail, thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Make pom-pom (I use two cardboard templates that I made from a box that used to have crackers in it, there are better options out there.) and attach to top Of hat. Weave in ends. If you choose to block the hat (l block everything I make) it is best done before attaching the pom-pom.
