Modeled by Hannah Barber Achieve a great double-knit look without the work! This pattern scratches so many knitting itches! It is worked in the round, is versatile, and it employs an easy-to-follow colorwork design. Hannah can be knitted any length, and because it has a buttoned closure, it can be buttoned and worn as a cowl, twisted and then buttoned for a moebius cowl or left unbuttoned as a scarf. It uses Quince & Company's luscious tern wool and silk yarn. Absolutelystunning! Sizes -One size fits all Materials: One 50 g skein each of Quince & Company tern: Back Bay and Driftwood. One 16" each circular #1 and #3 needle, stitch markers, and tapestry needle 14 half-inch buttons Gauge: 32 stitches and 32 rounds = 4" using #3 needles, but gauge is unimportant here. INSTRUCTIONS: Using Driftwood and #1 needle, CO 96 st, placing one marker at the round beginning and one after the 48"h st (1/2 way). Join to beginning being careful not to twist sts. Knit 10 rounds garter stitch (one round knit followed by one round purl---repeat 5 times). FOLLOW CHART A, switch to #3 needle. Attach Back Bay and work 6 repeats of each 8 stitch pattern repeat (48 sts each half) for a total of 96 stitches (Chart shows only 28 sts of each half). Work to desired length. Cover cowl blocks to approx. 42". \*Float loosely and evenly. Detach Back Bay, and switch back to #1 needle. With Driftwood, knit 4 rounds garter stitch as in beginning. BUTTONHOLES: Next round, K2, BO 1, (K6, BO1) 6 times, K3 (7 buttonholes) Repeat for second side for a tota. of 14 buttonholes. Next round, Purl 2, and using back-loop CO, CO 1 stitch on right-hand needle. (Purl6, CO1) 6 times. K3. Repeat for second half. 14 buttonholes complete. Continue alternating knit and purl rounds for garter edge until you have completed 10 rounds. BO. Finishing: Tie and trim all yarn ends. Damp block and dry flat so that the piece is blocked in half, each half being the reverse of the other. Make sure edges are straight and crisp. Attach buttons to line up with buttonholes.
