SHANNON is an elegant cable and lace cowl that is fully reversible and knits up quickly in chunky yarn. Knitting Terms k: Knit p: Purl k2tog: knit two stitches together p2tog: purl two stitches together yo: yarn over C4R: Place 4 stitches on cable needle and bring to front of work, then "k, p, k, p" the next four stitches from the left-hand needle. "k, p, k, p'" 4 stitches on cable needle. This is a 4x4 ribbed cable. Materials Needed: 100 grams/137 yards bulky wool Sample Yarn: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes "Superwash Bulky"" Colorway: Dove Heather Size Us10/6.0 mm circular needles 24" or longer for Magic Loop 1 stitch marker Cable Needle Gauge: 16 stitches by 22 rows per 4" of 2x2 rib stitch.
The Pattern:
Cast On 72 stitches. Join for working in the round, placing marker to denote beginning of round. Round 1: \*k2, p2\* to end of round. Repeat Round 1 until piece measures 1.0"/2.5 cm from cast-on edge.
Body of Cowl:
Setting up the Cable Round: The cowl is divided into five identical sections. Instructions given for the "Cable Round setup" are for one section. Repeat this section five times as instructed. This will set up the cable section of cowl.
Cable Round Setup (section instruction):
[p1, k2, pl, \*kl, p1\* four times, pl, k2, pl]. Repeat [] four more times. Body Round 1 (Cable Round): [pl, k2tog, yo, pl, C4R, p1, yo, k2tog, pl]. Repeat [] four more times. Body Round 2: [pl, kl, pl, \*kl, pl\* four times, pl, k2, p1]. Repeat [] four more times. Body Round 3: [p1, k2tog, yo, p1, \*kl, pl\* four times, p1, yo, k2tog, pl]. Repeat [] four more times. Body Round 4: Repeat Round 2. Body Rounds 5-8: Repeat Body Rds. 3 and 4 two more times. Rounds 9-40: Repeat Body Rds. 1-8 four more times.
Finishing the cowl:
Work in 2x2 rib stitch (\*k2, P2\* to end of round) for 1 inch/2.5. cm. Bind off loosely in pattern. Block lightly.
