Supplies:
Ihook 3oz skein Caron Simply Soft or comparable light worsted weight yarn Tapestry needle Gauge: Beginning chain will be approximately 21 inches. You can check at this point to see if it will fit your head. This pattern is easily adjustable for size. Just make sure that your beginning chain is in multiples of 6. Note: If you would like a slouchier hat you can go up a hook size or two once you have finished the band of the hat.
Band
Ch 72 join w/sl st making to certain not to twist your chain. 1: Ch 2, hdc in join and in each around, join w/ sl st to 1"t hdc. (72) 2-3: Ch 2, hdc in each around.
Body
4 : Ch 3, (counts as dc here and throughout), sk 2 hdc, 5dc in next st, sk 2 hdc, \*dc in next, sk 2 hdc, 5 dc in next, sk 2 hdc\*, repeat from \* to \* around. Join to top of the ch 3. 5 : Ch 3, 5 dc in middle dc of shell, \*sk next 2 dc and dc in the next single dc, 5dc in middle dc of shell\*, repeat from \* to \* around. Join to top of the ch 3. 6- 12 : Repeat 5. (For a longer slouchier hat do a few extra rounds here) 13 : Ch 3, 3 dc in middle dc of shell, \*sk next 2 dc and dc in the next single dc, 3dc in middle dc of shell\*, repeat from \* to \* around. Join to top of the ch 3. 14 : Ch 3, dc in the middle dc of your first shell, dc in single dc, \*dc in middle dc of shell, dc in single dc\*, repeat from \* to \* around, join to top of ch 3. 15 : Ch 3, fpdc around each dc, join to top of ch 3. 16: ch 3, fpdc2tog around, fpdc around last fpdc and join. 17 : Ch 3, fpdc2tog around, join. Cut yarn leaving a long tail. You will now weave this tail through the last sts and cinch it up. End off and weave in ends.
