Intortus Hat
Intortus clouds are found high up in the Earth's atmosphere, above 16,ooo feet, and are made up of ice crystals, usually marking the boundary between two pressure fronts. Their name is derived from Latin, meaning "twisted, wound", and I thought it appropriate for a winter hat made from handspun yarn with cables featuring twisted stitches. I designed and made this hat for a friend the winter of2014-2015. Size Adult with head circumference of 22.5" (just over57cm)
Materials
approximately 200 yards (183m) worsted weight yarn US5 (3.75mm) DPN needles → darning needle Gauge 17 stitches = 2.5"(6.35cm)

Difficulty “Adventurous Intermediate" to Advanced
Pattern
● Using α stretchy cast on (l opted for Austrian CO), cast on 153 stitches (9 repeats of 17 stitches). Join in the round, being careful not to twist the starting row ········· ● To form the ribbed band, knit the setup row 5-10 times 17 16 15 14 13 12 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 ● Begin the chart. NOTE: Rows 12-25 should be repeated a total of 3 times to get proper depth for the hat. ● Row 32: Shift the start of the row one stitch left - purl the first stitch, adding it to the previous row. That stitch will become the last stitch used at the end of row 32 for the centered, double purl decrease ● Once finished, break yarn, leaving about 12", thread a darning needle, and pass it through the remaining stitches a few times. Weave the ends in and block the hat.
