Strawberry Coin Purse

A cute little purse to make for a weekend project. Once you master crocheting the motif you can easily make this purse following the written pattern accompanied by a chart. SKILL LEVEL : Intermediate FINISHED SIZE Height: 4 inches Circumference: 10 inches Base Diameter 1.75 inches MATERIALS Cotton yarns 1 x 50g (120 m) of green (A) 1 x 50g (120 m) of red (B) Size F/3.75 mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge Yarn sewing needle, sewing needle, sewing thread for basting, clear nylon thread, small amount of fabric for lining, a round base board (optional), an 8,5 cm width sew on round metal frame with 23 holes.

One pattern repeat is 1 inch by 1 inch. inch = 5 rows 1 inch = 6 sc

Strawberry Stitches:

5 dc in next st, pull up a loop, remove hook, insert the hook on top of the first dc and pass it through the loop you just made, pick up yarn A (the leaf), pull it through both loops (a popcorn was made). Sc4tog into each dc in the popcorn, ch 1 to tighten. Note: Carry the unused yarn inside the working stitches to hide them while maintaining your tension. Check your stitches as you go; make sure there are 3 dc in between strawberries, 8 strawberries in one round. Adjust your stitches at the beginning of a round if necessary so that the new strawberry always falls in the center of the two strawberries below it. The base is crocheted in spiral without slipstitch joining unless specified. Use marker to mark the end of a round. The Purse Opening, Side A

The purse opening is worked one side after the other and is a continuation of the body part. Row 1: Ch 2, pick up yarn B, strawberry st in same 2ch sp, pick up yarn A, dc in each of next 3 st. (Pick up yarn B, strawberry st in next st, pick up yarn A, dc in each of next 3 st); rep two more times. Dc in next st , turn. (4 strawberries) Row 2: While carrying the unused yarn inside the stitches, sc into the tip of the strawberry, sc into each of next 3 st); rep accross. Sc into the tip of 3 ch, turn. (14 sc) Row 3: Sc into next st, dc in next st, [strawberry st, dc into each of next 3 st]; rep two more times ending with 1 dc, sc on the last 2 st, turn. (3 strawberries). Row 4: Sc in next dc, (sc on the tip of the strawberry, sc in next 3 st); repeat accross, sc on the tip of the last strawberry, sc in next dc, turn ( 11 sc) Row 5: Sc into next st, dc in next st, [strawberry st, dc into each of next 3 st]; rep one more time ending with 1 dc, sc on the last 2 st, cut off yarns. The Purse Opening, Side B

Row 1: Pick up yarn A. Working on the right side of the fabric, 2 ch in the center st between two strawberries, strawberry st in same 2 ch sp, dc in each of next 3 st, (strawberry st in next st, dc in each of next 3 st); rep accross, dc, sc, in the remaining 2 st, turn. (4 strawberries) Row 2- 5: Rep same rows as side A.

Edging:

Row 1: Using yarn A, sc in any lower corner st. Sc along the edge of the front and back opening, 2 sc on all top corners. Repeat around one more time, 2 sc on all top corners, join with a sl st to the first sc, cut off yarns, sew in all ends. There should be 23 sc on each sides.

The Lining

se inside out, trace the edging and cut a template adding half cm sewing allowance Cut lining according to the template, sew the lining on both sides and bottom. Sew or glue the base board to the bottom of the lining. Flip the lining inside out. With the wrong side out slide in the purse to the lining. Pin the lining to the purse, loose stitch the lining very close to the edge.

Attaching the Frame to the Purse

Thread a sewing needle with 1.5 yards of clear nylon thread. Insert needle from the wrong side of the purse in between the lining and the crocheted fabric into the second hole then sew into the first hole. Sew to the first hole from the outside all the way into the lining about 1 mm from the edge, pull tight then sew back into the 2nd hole from insde, hold tight and press hard the lining and fabric toward the frame while you sew. Sew into the 3rd hole, then out from the same 3rd hole again. Sew into the 4rt hole, then go back through the same hole again. Repeat in this manner till one side is complete. Hide the thread inside the fabric when crossing to the other side of the frame. When finish tie a knot close to the corner, burn the nylon to secure the stitches.
