BY SUE LAZENBY Branwen (pronounced BRAN-oo-wen) means 'White Raven' and is also interpreted as 'Blessed Raven'. As a Raven Goddess, she is one of the Celtic battle goddesses ('Morigan') and possesses great strength of character. Taking inspiration from the shape of spear heads and axes, entwined Celtic patterns as well as the shape of raven's wings, I've designed this sideways knit triangular shawl. The cabled panel along the lower edge compliments the diamond patterned lace and the shawl is suitable for an intermediate knitter.

Pattern notes
The pattern starts at the side edge and increases are made every RS row between the lace section & the cabled panel. There is a twisted stitch (1/iRC) forming the lower edge of the shawl. The lace pattern row repeat is very long due to working the increases into the pattern, however the pattern itself is more repetitive (a 32 row repeat). Because of the length of actual repeat, unless a lot more yarn is available, I would suggest only working 2 repeats for the increase section before working the same for the decrease section. PLEASE WEIGHYARNBEFORE STARTING TODETERMINE WHEN TOSTART THE DECREASE SECTION, ESPECIALLY IF YOU WISH TO WORK ADDDITIONAL REPEATS.

NOTES FOR WORKING CHARTS:
Please note: The first 3 garter sts are not shown, these are maintained throughout. All WS rows are also not shown & should be worked as seen i.e. knit the knit sts & purl the purl sts. Where there are double decreases the WS should be worked as a knit st, which maintains the pattern. Work the 3 garter edge sts, increase chart & then cable panel across the sts. Rpt chart until just under half of yarn is used (last rpt can also end with row 32 or 64 as required). Work decrease chart and cable panel in the same way, maintaining the 3 garter st edge throughout until 47 sts remain. The last rpt can end after row 32 or 64(once 47 are left) if increase chart ended on these rows. KNIT 3 ROWS. BO knitwise on WS & block.
