Hannah Lavinia'S
BASKET WEAVE SCARF
This pattern is easy if you can knit and purl and count to four! The pattern swaps between knit and purl every four stitches and is the same sequence every four rows. It is a beautiful pattern in its own right but I have added fringing to make it a little more interesting. Would be a great children's scarf if knitted a little shorter. Needles: 6mm (US 10) Yarn: DK 2 skeins red, 1 blue. Other: Darning needle and scissors. Gauge: Not critical.
Cast on 40 st.
Knit first two rows then to begin the basket weave pattern work this pattern.

Row 1: K4 st, YF, P4 st, YB. Repeat until end of row. Row 2: K4 st, YF, P4 st, YB. Repeat until end of row. Row 3: K4 st, YF, P4 st, YB. Repeat until end of row. Row 4: K4 st, YF, P4 st, YB. Repeat until end of row. Row 5: P4 st, YB, K4 st, YF. Repeat until end of row. Row 6: P4 st, YB, K4 st, YF. Repeat until end of row. Row 7: P4 st, YB, K4 st, YF. Repeat until end of row. Row 8: P4 st, YB, K4 st, YF. Repeat until end of row. Repeat rows 1-8 until scarf measures 58inch $(149\mathrm{cm})$ Or desired length. Knit two rows. Cast off in knit.
Optional Fringe Detailing
In a contrasting colour, measure and cut $50\mathrm{~x~}1$ 4inch $(35\mathrm{cm})$ pieces of yarn. Use 5 pieces for each fringe as there will be one fringe threaded through the middle of each ‘square’ of the pattern (as seen in picture below.) When all 5 pieces are threaded through, tie in a tight knot securely. Repeat this for all 10 squares.
