Twisted Rib Cowl in Chunky Yarn

SIZE: 22.5 inches around; 8" in length (height) YARN: Chunky weight yarn Sample cowl was made using Kertzer's Marble Chunky in Majesty that was leftover after knitting a scarf. I needed a little less than 2.5 yards per row. NEEDLE: 24" US 10 circular needles GAUGE: 5 stitches = 1.5 inches (unblocked); 3 rows = .75 inch NOTE: This cowl is knitted in the round. Each of the pairs of stitches that are purled in the ribbing will be knitted in reverse order to create a twist along the length of the cowl . providing a mini-cable effect. The size of the sample cowl allows the wearer to pull it on over the head easily and is not a tight fit. Ifyou wish a looser or tighter fit, increase or decrease the number of cast-on stitches in multiples of 5.

Cast on 75 stitches using the method of your choice.

Place marker and join taking care not to twist the stitches. Rows 1 thru 3: \*K3, p2. Repeat from \* around. Row 4: Knit each stitch. Row 5: \*K3, skip 1 stitch but leave it on the left needle, knit next stitch, then knit the skipped stitch, and take both stitches off the left needle. Knitting these 2 stitches out of order will create a twist. Repeat from \* around. Repeat rows 4 and 5 until the cowl is the desired length. Repeat row 4. Repeat rows 1 thru 3. Bind off in ribbing pattern.
