Faded Denim Lace
Designed by YaYa Lovestoknit This cowl is knit from the bottom up, the plainer top growing out of the lace section.

Yarn: Sport weight yarn (sample was knit using 1-1/2 skeins of Brunswick Sport - 173 yards per skein) Needles: US 8 (5 mm) circular needles Other tools: darning needle, stitch markers in 2 colors or styles (1 to indicate beginning of round and the others to help you keep track of the lace pattern sequence) - easily adjusted by adding or subtracting cast-on stitches in multiples of 17 Gauge: Not significant for this pattern. Abbreviations used: k- knit k2tog - knit two stitches together kw - knitwise p-purl pm - place marker psso - pass slip stitch over sl - slip sm - slip marker tbl - thru the back loop yo - yarn over
Notes:
Although 153 stitches are cast on to start, the decreases in round 6 will reduce the number of stitches to 135. Round 12 will add the stitches back so you will begin the lace pattern sequence each time with 153 stitches. The additional stitch markers are optional, but are helpful in keeping track of the stitch sequence.
The Cowl:
Cast on 153 stitches. Place beginning of round marker and join to knit in the round, taking care not to twist stitches.
Lace Section:
1. Purl around 2. Knit around 3. Purl around 4. Purl around 5. Knit around. 6. \*K1, yo, k1, k2tog tbl, p1, k2tog, k1, p1, k2, p1, k2tog, k1, p1, kl, pm; rep from \* around. 7. Knit around slipping markers. 8. \*[K1, yo] twice, [k2tog tbl, p1, k2tog], p1, [k2tog tbl, p1, k2tog], [yo, k1] twice, sm; rep from \* around. 9. Knit around slipping markers. 10. \*K1, yo, k3, yo, [slip 1 kw, k2tog, psso], p1, k3tog, yo, k3, yo, k1, sm; rep from \* around. 11. Knit around slipping markers. 12. \*K1, yo, k5, yo, [slip 1 kw, k2tog, psso], yo, k5, yo, k1, sm; rep from \* around. Repeat rounds 5 thru 12 three more times for Lace Pattern. On third set, end with round 9 s0 that you have 135 stitches on the needle.
Top half:
1. Knit around slipping markers. 2. \*k1, yo, k4, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k4, yo, k1, sm; repeat from \* around. Repeat the previous two rounds until 3 inches from the last row knit of the lace section. 1. Knit around slipping markers. 2. \*k1, yo, k2, yo, k2tog twice, k1, k2tog twice, yo, k2, yo, k1, sm; repeat from \* around. 3. Knit around slipping markers. Repeat last three rounds once more. 1. Knit around, removing all markers except for the beginning of round marker. 2. Purl around. 3. Knit around. 4. Purl around. Finishing: Bind off loosely. Weave in ends. Block if desired.
