A Hat for Claire
One of my coworker's has a daughter with an American Girl Doll that she calls Claire. She asked me to make her a lacy hat with a flower motif, and this is what I came up with. Iused Lion Brand's Vanna's Choice yarn. Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook. Gauge: 1st 2 rounds= 2.25 inches at widest point Measurements: Finished hat measures 4 inches across at widest, and 4.25 inches from top of hat to edge of brim. Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms): ch: chain sp: space sl st: slip stitch sk: skip rep: repeat sc: single crochet Pattern note: Hat is made in the round without turning.
Pattern:
Start with a magic circle. Round 1: (Sc, ch 3) 5 times into circle, sc into circle one more time, join with a sl st to 1st sc: 6 sc & 5 ch 3 sp. Round 2: Sl st into 1st ch 3 sp, ch 1,\* (2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc) into ch 3 sp. Rep from \* around, join with a sl st to 1st sc. Round 3: Sl st into next 2 sc & into 1st ch 1 sp, \* ch 5, sk 4 sc & sl st into next ch 1 sp. Rep from \* around, join with a sl st into 1st ch of beg ch 5. Round 4: Ch 1, (sc, 3 dc, sc) into same ch 5 sp. \* Sl st into next sl st, (sc, 3 dc, sc) into next ch 5 sp. Rep from \* around, join with a sl st into 1st sc. Round 5: Ch 6 (counts as dc & ch 3 sp now & throughout pattern), sk sc & dc, sc into next dc. \* Ch 3, sk next dc & sc, & dc into sl st. Ch 3, sk next sc & dc, & sc into next dc. Rep from \* around, end with ch 3, sl st into 3'd ch of beg ch 6. Rounds 6-7: Sl st into 1st ch 2 sp. Ch 6, dc into next ch 3 sp. \* Ch 3, dc into next ch 3 sp. Rep around, join with a sl st into 3rd ch of beg ch 6. Round 8: Sl st into 1st ch-2 sp. Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc) into 1st ch-3 sp. \* Sl st into dc, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc) into ch-3 sp. Rep from \* around, join with a sl st into 1st sc. End off. Weave in ends. Give to a girl who will love it! Optional: If your gauge is slightly off, or if you are making this for a different size doll, you may need to repeat Round 6 one final time to lengthen the hat just a bit.
