Baby Tassels Hat
Baby Tassels Hat
Alexis Hoy

This hat was originally designed for my son's giant noggin. I was tired of constantly pulling hats down over his ears - he grew out of them so quickly! I wanted something quick to knit that would last longer than a month. The springy yarn in a forgiving rib/cable pattern makes for a nice stretchy hat that will expand with those fast-growing babies. You'll get a lot of use out of it, plus plenty of compliments too!

Move stitches onto 2 dpn and hold parallel so that yarn is at one end of the needles. With 3rd dpn insert needle knitwise through the first stitch on each parallel needle and k2tog - 1 k stitch made. Rep for 2nd pair of stitches - 2 k sts made. Slip first k stitch over 2nd - 1 st bound off. Continue to k2tog and BO until 1 st remains. Break yarn and slip end through last stitch, pull tight. Make tassels: Hold yarn between forefinger and thumb, wrap around 3 fingers 18 times. Cut yarn, insert scissors through all wraps and cut. Cut another length of yarn and tie in a non-slip knot around middle of yarn wraps. Pull all the ends together tightly below the knot and secure with another knot 1/2" below the first. Trim tassel ends. Repeat for 2nd tassel. Finishing: With tapestry needle, securely sew a tassel to each corner of the hat's top. Weave in ends.
