baby it's cold outside
This neckwarmer is perfect for the coldest days of the year. Worked flat with bulky yarn and u.s 10 (6 mm) needles, this project is suitable for who wants to learn how to make cables and short rows technique and for anyone who wants an instant gratification knit or a last minute gift. The title is inspired by a famous Frank Loesser's song, an evergreen made unforgettable by, Dean Martin, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Dionne Warwick and many others.
Materials:
Yarn: Puno 1 by Filitaly-lab (75% baby alpaca, 13% merino extrafine, 12% polyammide; 50 gr. 110 m per ball) 2 balls (a few yards left over), or Puno 2 by Filitaly-lab (68% Alpaca, 22% Nylon, 10% Merino ) held double, or any bulky yarn that gives you the same gauge. US 10 or 6 mm needles (straight or circular) Cable needle Tapestry needle 3 buttons.
Abbreviations:
st /sts = stitch / stitches k = knit p = purl cable 6 left: slip the first 3 sts from the point of the left-hand needle onto the cable needle, and leave these in front of the work, K the next 3 sts, then K the 3 sts left on the cableneedle W&T: wrap and turn (bring yarn in front of the work, slip next st from left needle to right needle, bring yarn on the back of the work, slip st. again from right needle to left needle, turn work). ssk = slip, slip, knit (a decrease) yo: yarn over (an increase).
Difficulty: easy.
Skills required: cabling, short rows, picking up stitches, maknig a buttonhole. Gauge: 4" garter stitch (knit each row) flat =12 sts x 22 rows.

Directions: (finished item should measure 61cm X 30cm) Cast on 36 sts. Row 1: k1, p1, k6 , p1, k to end. Row 2 (and even rows) k to 9 sts to end of row, k1, p6, k1, p1. Row 3: (cable) k1, p1, cable 6 left, k to end. Row 5: (short row) k1, p1, k6 , p1, k7, w&t. Continue like this, making a cable row (like row 3) every 8 rows and a short row (like row 5) every 4 rows (3 times), then every 6 rows (10 times) , then again every 4 rows (3 times). Cable rows: 3, 11, 19, 27,35, 43, 51, 59, 67, 75, 83, 91. Short rows: 5, 9, 13, 17, 23, 29, 35, 41, 47, 53, 59, 65, 71, 77, 81, 85, 89. Work this way to row 93. Row 94: bind off 12 sts, (p2, k2) 6 times. Row 95: (p2, k2) 6 times. Row 96: (button holes) p2, ssk, p2, k2, p2, k1, ssk, p1, k2, p2, k2, ssk, k2. Row 97: p2, kl, yo, p2, k2, p2, k1, yo, p2, k2, p2, k2, p1, yo, k2. Row 98: (p2, k2) 6 times Row 99: bind off loosely all the sts. Pick up 24 sts from the opposite side, from the lower end (where the cable is) work 5 rows of 2/2 ribs (p2, k2) 6 times. On row 6 bind off loosely all the sts. Weave in loose ends and cut yarn. Block lightly, if you want. Sew the buttons in correspondance with buttonholes. Now you can go take a lot of cool pictures on the beach although the weather is still chilly!
