I made a knitting chart in Excel based on the Germaine stitch pattern for socks that Ioriginall atempted in August 2006. They were too tight on socks with 56 stitches, so I made a mental note to modify them with a smaller cable and to add more repeats. As I was knitting them cuff down, I realized that the arrowhead lace pattern was producing a V shaped lace pattern that resembles hearts. This pattern reminds me of something my Mom would love to wear if she were stillalive. She loved wearing cables and lace, so I'm naming my first pattern after her. With only two rows of actual lace repeats to memorize, this lace and cable pattern only appears intricately detailed. (If you decide to knit them toe up, I'd love to see them).

Suggested Yarns: Shibui sock yarn, 2 skeins ( $100\%$ superwash merino, 382 yards) for medium size Lorna's Laces sock yarn, 2 skeins ( $80\%$ superwash wool, $20\%$ nylon, 430 yards) for large size Needles: US 1 double pointed needles $(2.25\;\mathrm{mm})$ , set of 4 or size to obtain gauge Gauge: 7.5 stitches per inch

Follow chart below for 16 repeats. Cuff should measure about $7~\%$ inches.
Heel Flap
Divide stitches for hee flap. Knit (32, 36) stitches from needles 1 and 2 and turn work. (At this point, it's easier to work the heel flap if you place the instep stitches on a holder or divide them evenly on needles 2 and 3). Knit 3, purl (26, 30), knit 3. Row 1: Knit Row 2: K3, purl to the last 3 stitches, K3 Repeat these two rows tillheel flp measures $2\,\%$ inches (about 27 rows). End on a purl side.
Turn Heel
I prefer a rounder heel with 6 center stitches: Knit across (19, 21) stitches, SSK, K1, turn Slip 1, P7, P2tog, P1, turn Slip 1, K8, SSK, K1, turn Slip 1, P9, P2tog, P1, turn Slip 1, K10, SSK, K1, turn Slip 1, purl to one stitch before the gap, P2tog across gap, P1, turn. Repeat until all stitches have been worked Knit evenly across ( 20, 22) turned heel stitches.
Gussets
Needle 1: With a spare needle, pick up one stitch between each purl ridge of the garter stitch heel flap. Needle 2: Keep in pattern across instep stitches (31, 36 stitches on needles 2 and 3 will be knit altogether and become needle 2). Needle 3: Pick up one stitch between each purl ridge of the garter stitch heel flap along with knitting half of the heel stitches. (Note for medium socks only: pick up 1 extra stitch on needle 3 so that you end up with 64 stitches after all gusset decreases are completed. Slip the remaining half of the heel stitches onto the first needle. Knit one round even, being careful to knit thru the back loop on allthe picked up gusset stitches. This will help to cloe any possible holes and produce a clean gusset edge.
Gusset Decreases
Roud 1: he tf,t, ststi , needle 3 (at center of heel) Round 2: Knit one round even Decrease every other round until (64, 72) stitches remain
