PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
THE RIB START
Cast on 60 sts onto smaller needles. Join the round and place stitch marker, be careful not to twist. Rnd 1-8: Knit in RIB PATTERN.
INCREASETOWARD THE CALF
Change to larger needles and continue knitting with LACE PATTERN A, unless indicated otherwise. Rnd 9-18: Knit in round with lace pattern Rnd 19: Increase 1 st at marker and 1 st at 30th st $=62$ sts Rnd 20: Knit in round $\mathtt{=}62$ sts Rnd 21: increase 1 st at 16th st and 1 st at 46th $\mathtt{S t}=64$ sts Rnd 22: Knit in round $=64$
DECREASE TOWARD THE ANKLE

FINISHING SUGGESTION
To make the socks stay put, thread clear swimsuit elastic in the inside of the ribing, secure it and work the ends in.

TURN THE HEAL
You are at the beginning of Rnd 105. Put 20 sts , centered on the marker, on one needle. Put the other 20 sts on a stitch holder. Work the heel back and forth in ST st, slipping the first stitch on each row, for 18 rows. The rectangle should be about 2.5 inches long. End with a knit row. Continue with heel shaping as follow: Purl 13, P2TOG, Purl 1, turn Slip 1, Knit 7 SSK, Knit 1, turn Slip 1, Purl 8 P2TOG, Purl 1, turn, Slip 1, Knit 9 SSK, knit 1, turn Slip 1, Purl 10 P2TOG, Purl 1, turn
ANKLE GUSSETS
Pick up and knit the 9 slipped sts on the side of the heel flap, place marker. Increase 1 st at the beg of instep $=21$ StS, Work in LACE PATTERN B across the held stitches on the instep, place marker, pick up and knit the other 9 slipped sts on the other side of the heel flap, and knit in stockinet stitch to the center sole marker. Count all sts, you should have 53 sts on your needles. Knit 12 rnds as follow: Rnd one: Knit 2 sts before first marker, K2TOG. Work across instep in pattern. SSK after next marker, knit to end of rnd. Rnd two: Work sole in St st, work in pattern across instep. Repeat rnd one and rnd two five more times. You should have 41 sts left on the needles. Remove the side markers. Rnd 92-104: Knit in round $=40$ sts
THE FOOT
Knit straight until the foot of the sock measures 7 inches long. Place markers at the sides of the sock - 10 stitches to either side of the heel marker. Remove the heel marker. Make paired decreases at the markers on alternate rounds for 16 rounds. Graft the remaining stitches together to seam the toe. Darn the yarn-end into the sock.
