Notes
When more than one number is given, the first applies to the medium size and the second to the large. The size of the sock can be adjusted by using a smaller or larger needle for a different gauge.
Abbreviations
sl- slip as if to purl, unless otherwise noted. yo-yarn-over LT (Left Twist) - slip 1 stitch knitwise, slip 1 stitch knitwise. Place both stitches back onto left hand needle (LHN). Skip the first stitch and knit into the back of the second, then knit BOTH stitches together through the back of the loop. RT (Right Twist) - Knit both stitches together, leaving them on the LHN. Knit the first stitch again. cdd: slip 2 sts together as if to knit, knit 1 st, pass 2 slipped stitches over (makes a centered double decrease). k2tog/p2(3)tog- knit/purl 2 (3) stitches together. ssk- slip 1 stitch as if to knit, slip another stitch as if to purl. Instructions
Cuff: Loosely cast on 66 (74) stitches. Join, being careful not to twist your stitches. PM to indicate beginning of round. Work Chart A (ribbing) twice per round until cuff is 1 inch (or desired length). Set-up round for leg: [k1 (3), p1, k2, p1, k23, p1, k2, p1, k1 (3)] twice. Leg: Work Chart B twice per round. Work rounds 1- 24 of Chart B twice; then rounds 1 -12 once.
Set-up for heel:
PM to indicate start of heel. K1 (3), p1, k2, p1, k7, cdd, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, cdd, k7, p1, k2, p1, k1 (3). PM to indicate start of instep. 33 (37) instep sts/31 (35) heel sts Heel: will be worked over 31 (35) sts. Place remaining 33 (37) sts on a holder for instep. Heel flap is worked back and forth.
Heel Flap:
Row 1 (WS): slip 1, p0 (2), k1, p2, k1, purl across to last 5 (7) sts; k1, p2, k1, p1 (3). Turn. Row 2: slip 1, k0 (2), p1, LT, p1, \*k1, slip 1; repeat from \* to last 6 (8) sts, k1, p1, RT, p1, k1 (3). Turn. Row 3: slip 1, p0 (2), k1, p2, k1, purl across to last 5 (7) sts; k1, p2, k1, p1 (3). Turn. Row 4: slip 1, k0 (2), p1, k2, p1, k1, \*k1, slip 1; repeat from \* to last 7 (9) sts, k2, p1, k2, p1, k1(3). Turn. Repeat rows 1-4 until heel flap measures 2 1/4 inches or desired length, ending on row 2 or 4. Row 1 (WS): slip 1, p17 (19), p2tog, p1. Turn. Row 2: slip 1, k6 ssk, k1. Turn. Row 3: slip 1, p7, p2tog, p1. Turn. Row 4: slip 1, k8, ssk, k1. Turn. Continue working one more stitch until all the stitches have been worked. You should end on a knit row with 19 (21) sts remaining. Do not turn work. Begin gusset. Gusset: Pick up and knit one stitch in each slipped stitch along side of heel. PM to indicate start of instep. Work 33 (37) instep sts in Chart B (starting with Row 13. See note below). PM to indicate end of instep. Pick up and knit same number of stitches along remaining side of heel.Knit 10 stitches and place marker. The beginning of the round is now the middle of the heel. Gusset decreases: Round 1 (decrease round): Knit to last 2 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog. Slip marker, work 33 (37) sts in pattern as established. Slip marker, ssk, knit to end of round. Round 2: Knit around as established (pattern on instep and stockinette on sole). Repeat these two rounds until 64 (72) stitches remain. 33 (37) instep sts/27 (31, 35) sole sts. Note: Work Rows 13-24 of Chart B once on instep stitches. Work Rows 1-45 of Chart C once on instep stitches. After Chart C is completed, instep stitches will beknit in stockinette. Foot: Knit even until foot measures approximately 1 1/2 (1 3/4) inches less than desired foot length. Knit to last stitch before SECOND instep marker. PM to indicate new beginning of round. Shift remaining stitch to sole. 32 (36) instep sts/32 (36) sole sts.
Toe:
Round 1 (Decrease round): k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog, k1. Slip marker, p1, ssk, knit across to last 3 stitches before second instep marker, k2tog, p1. Round 2:k Work rounds 1-2 until 32 (36) sts remain. Work decrease round only until 20 sts remain. Use Kitchener stitch to graft toes. Weave in all loose ends.
