100 gm fingering wt sock yarn US size 1.5 needles (2.5mm) or size needed to knit to gauge Stitch Markers TapestryNeedle Gauqe: 8.5 sts & 12 rows/inch in stockinette
Notes
When more than one number is given, the first applies to the small size, the second to the medium, and the last to the large. The size of the sock can be adjusted by using a smaller or larger needle for a different gauge. Instructions on mirroring socks are included in the pattern.
Abbreviations
sl- slip as if to purl, unless otherwise noted yo-yarn-over k2tog/p2tog- knit/purl 2 stitches together ssk- slip 1 stitch as if to knit, slip another stitch as if to knit. Instructions
Modifications to mirror socks: Small and Large Cuff: Chart A should be read left to right for second sock. Leg: Begin Chart B on row 15 (17, 19). Cuff: Loosely cast on 60 (66, 72) stitches. Join, being careful not to twist your stitches. PM to indicate beginning of round. Work Chart A until cuff is 1 1/4 inches (or desired length). Chart A is worked 6 times per round. Leg: Work rounds 1-28 (32, 36) of Chart B twice or desired length, ending on row 14 (16, 18) or row 28 (32,36). On last row 14 (16, 18) or row 28 (32,36), PM to indicate start of heel flap. k30 (33, 36) sts. PM to indicate end of heel/start of instep. K30 (33, 36) sts. PM to indicate end of instep. 30 (33, 36) sts instep/30 (33, 36) sts heel Heel: will be worked over 30 (33, 36) sts. Place remaining 30 (33, 36) sts on a holder for instep. Heel flap is worked back and forth. HeelFlap: Row 1 (RS): slip 1, \*k1, slip 1; repeat from \* to last 3 (2, 3) sts, k3 (2, 3) Turn. Row 2: slip 1, purl across. Turn. Repeat rows 1-2 until heel flap measures 2 1/4 inches or desired length, ending on row 1. Note: You will need to pick up a minimum of 15 (17, 19 gusset sts in order to work the gusset panel.
Turn Heel:
Row 1 (Ws): slip 1, p16 (19, 20), p2tog, p1, turn. Row 2: slip 1, k5 (8, 7) ssk, k1, turn. Row 3: slip 1, p6 (9, 8), p2tog, p1, turn. Row 4: slip 1, k7 (10, 9), ssk, k1, turn. Continue working one more stitch until all the stitches have been worked. You should end on a knit row with 18 (21, 22) sts remaining. Do not turn work. Begingusset. Gusset: Pick up and knit one stitch in each slipped stitch along side of heel. SM. Work 30 (33, 36) sts in lace pattern as established. SM. Pick up and knit same number of stitches along remaining side of heel. Knit 9 (10, 11) stitches and place marker. The beginning of the round is now the middle of the heel. K13 (15, 17) sts. PM to indicate gusset. Knit to last 9 (10, 11) before first instep marker, work gusset sts in Chart C. SM. Work instep sts in pattern as established. SM. Work gusset sts in Chart D.K to last 13 (14, 17) sts before beginning of round (bor). PM to indicate gusset. Knit to BOR.
Gusset Decreases:
Round 1 (decrease round): K to first gusset marker. SM. SSK, work gusset sts\* in Chart C as established. SM. Work instep sts in pattern as established. SM. Work gusset sts\* in Chart D as established. K to last 2 sts before gusset marker, k2tog, SM. Knit to BOR. Round 2: Knit to first gusset marker. SM. Work gusset sts in pattern as established. SM. Work instep stitches inpattern as established.SM.Work gusset sts in pattern as established. SM. Knit to bor. \* Note: You will be working one less st after each decrease round. Repeat rounds 1-2 until 58 (64, 72) stitches remain. Remove gusset markers. The remaining 2 gusset stitches become part of the sole. 30 (33, 36) instep sts/28 (31, 36) s0le sts Foot: Continue working as established until foot measures approximately 1 1/4 (1 1/2, 1 3/4) inches less than desired foot length; ending on row 14 (16, 18) or row 28 (32, 36). If foot is still not long enough to begin toe, continue to knit even until foot is correct length.
Set-up round:
Remove marker indicating beginning of round. Knit to first instep marker. Shift 1 (1, 0) st from instep to sole. PM to indicate beginning of instep. K29 (32, 36) sts. PM to indicate new beginning of round. 29 (32, 36) instep sts/29 (32, 36) sole sts
Toe:
Round 1 (Decrease round): k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog, k1. SM. k1, ssk, knit across to last 3 stitches before second instep marker, k2tog, k1. Round 2: k Work rounds 1-2 until 30 (32, 36) sts remain. Work decrease round only until 18 (20, 20) sts remain. Use Kitchener stitch to graft toes. Weave in all loose ends.
