This project was knitted with 1 skein of Lion Brand “Wool Ease" worsted weight yarn, 86% acrylic, 10% wool, 4 % rayon, Color #171 Gold, 3 oz/85g, 197 yds/180 m, plus a small amount of Color #188 Paprika and #179 Chestnut Heather. Model is wearing size Small.

Measurements:
Hat Circumference: 20"/51 cm (22"/56 cm). Knitted hats will stretch and are generally made about 2’”’ smaller than actual head circumference, to insure a comfortable fit. Gauge: In stockinette stitch, 20 sts and 27 rows = 4" (10 cm). To save time, take time to check gauge.
Materials:
MeDum Worsted weight yarn (4-ply),3.5 oz/100 g, 210 yds/192 m for hat plus a small amount in two other colors for flower Size 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles Size 6 (UK 8/4mm) 16" (41 cm) circular needle (or three sizes smaller than larger needle size established by gauge swatch) Size 9 (UK 5/5.5 mm) 16" (41 cm) circular needle and set of double pointed needles or size needed to obtain correct gauge Stitch marker Tapestry needle Abbreviations: DPN: double pointed needles Inc: increase stitches K: knit K2tog: knit 2 stitches together P: purl P3tog: purl 3 stitches together Pm: place marker Rem: remaining Rep: repeat Rnd: round St (s): stitch(es) St s: stockinette stitch
HAT:
Using smaller circular needle, CO 96 (104) sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts and pm at beg of round. Work K2, P2 rib for 1 2"/4 cm, increasing 4 (6) sts evenly across last rnd - 100 (110) sts. Using larger needles, begin St st and work for about 6"/15 cm (7"'/17.5 cm).
Shape Top:
NOTE: Switch to dpn's when stitch count is too low to comfortably continue with circular needle. Rnd 1: \*K8, k2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 90 (99) sts Rnd 2: \*K7, k2tog\* ,rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 80 (88) sts Rnd 3: \*K6, k2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 70 (77) sts Rnd 4: \*K5, k2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 60 (66) sts Rnd 5: \*K4, k2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 50 (55) sts Rnd 6: \*K3, k2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 40 (44) sts Rnd 7: \*K2, k2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 30 (33 sts) Rnd 8: \*K1, k2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 20 (22) sts Rnd 9: \*K2tog\*, rep from \* to \* 9 (10) times - 10 (11) sts Cut yarn, leaving a tail about 12"/30 cm long. KPK: Knit into the front, then purl into the front, then knit into the back of the same stitch - 3 sts made. PKP: Purl into the front, then knit into the back, then purl into the front of the same Stitch -- 3 sts made.
Center:
With smallest needles and color yarn selected for center of flower, CO 5 sts. Row 1 (RS): Kpk, p1, k1 pkp, k1 - 9 sts Rows 2 through 4: K1, \*p1, k1; rep from \* to end Row 5: Kpk, (p1, k1) 3 times, pkp, k1 - 13 sts Rows 6 through 14: Repeat Row 2 Row 15: K1, p3 tog, (k1, p1) twice, k1 p3tog, k1 - 9 sts Rows 16 through 18: Repeat Row 2 Bind off as follows: k1, p3tog, k1, p3 tog, k1 across row.
Petals:
With RS facing and color yarn selected for petals, pick up and k1 stitch from edge, transfer the stitch to the left-hand needle, cast on 5 sts by knitted cast on method (see Special Instructions), bind off 5 sts. Next, \* pick up and knit 1 st from edge, slip st already on right-hand needle over the picked up st, cast on 5 sts as before, bind off 5 sts. Repeat from \* around edge. Fasten off. Weave in yarn tails.
FINISHING:
Sew flower to hat. Wash hat according to yarn manufacturer's recommendation, lay flat/block to dry.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
How to do a knitted cast on:
After knitting a stitch, do not pass it to the right-hand needle. Leave it on the left-hand needle. Knit into the stitch just made and leave it on the left-hand needle. Continue to do this until you have cast on 5 additional stitches
