Heather Chevron Socks Continue as established, until you have worked all 30 [28, 30] stitches. Pick up the 30 [28, 30] stitches remaining from your provisional cast on and place a marker to indicate the end of a row. Divide the 60 [56, 60] stitches evenly onto 4 needles: two needles for the top of the foot, two for the bottom. Knit one round, placing a different marker after the first 30 [28, 30] sts to divide the top of the foot from the sole.

Work foot:

The first 30 [28, 30] sts of the round form the top of foot, the remaining 30 [28, 30] sts form the sole. Stitch markers divide these 2 sets of sts. Set-up round: P1, k1, p2 [1, 2], work first row Chevron Eyelet chart pattern, p2 [1, 2], k1, p1; k to end of round. Next round: P1, k1, p2 [1, 2], work next row Chevron Eyelet chart pattern, p2 [1, 2], k1, p1; k to end of round. Repeat this round until you reach 2" (5cm) from the back of the heel, slipping the markers each time you come to them, or place coil-less safety pins to your sock to avoid having to slip a marker every round.

Start heel:

Heel is worked back and forth over two needles. Leave the top of foot sts on needles as they are for now or you can transfer the sts to waste yarn if you prefer to keep these needles out of your way. Row 1: (RS) K29 [27, 29] w&t. Row 2: (WS) P28 [26, 28] w&t. Continue as established, ending after P14 [12, 14] row. The heel is half inishede as estabished, enang aiter P14 [12, 14] Tow: The heen is hial

Turn heel:

Row 1: K14 [12, 14]. Pick up the wrap around the next stitch and knit it together through the back loop with the stitch it is wrapped around, w&t. Row 2: P15 [13, 15]. Pick up the wrap around the next stitch and purl it together with the stitch it is wrapped around, w&t. Row 3: K16 [14, 16]. Pick up both wraps around the next stitch and knit them together through the back loop with the stitch they are wrapped around, w&t. Row 4: P17 [15, 17]. Pick up both wraps around the next stitch and purl them together with the stitch they are wrapped around, w&t. Continue as established, until you have worked all 30 [28, 30] stitches. You are now ready to start knitting in the round again. If you have put the top of foot stitches onto waste yarn, put them back onto the needles. Leg will be worked in the round over all 60 [56, 60] sts. In the next step, the starting place for the rounds will be shifted 2 sts to the left. Remove all previous markers. The instructions will tell you where to place the new marker.

Set up leg:

Set up: K2, pm (this will be the new start of the round) Round 1 (cable round): P2 [1, 2] work next row of chevron eyelet pattern, p2 [1, 2], C4F, p2 [1, 2], work corresponding row of reverse chevron eyelet pattern, p2 [1, 2], C4B. Round 2: P2 [1, 2] work next row of chevron eyelet pattern, p2 [1, 2], k4, p2 [1, 2] work next row of reverse chevron eyelet pattern, p2 [1, 2], k4. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 two more times. Then work round 2 two times. (8 roundscompleted)

Work leg:

Section 1: Rep round 1, then work round 2 seven times. Section 2: [Rep round 1, work round 2 three times] twice. Repeat sections 1 and 2 until desired length. Socks shown have 8 complete chevron lace repeats in total up the leg, you may want a taller or shorter sock. To finish the sock, continue staggered cable pattern as established along with the ribbing in the next section. By now you should have a sense of when to work the staggered cable, and it's frequency remains the same during the ribbing.

Ribbing:

Next Round: P2 [1, 2], k1, p1, [k2, p2] four times, k2, p1, k1, P2 [1, 2], k4 (or C4F), P2 [1, 2], k1, p1, [k2, p2] four times, k2, p1, k1, P2 [1, 2], k4 (or C4B). Repeat this round 11 times more. B0 using an elastic, stretchy bind off method of your choice. I prefer the sewn bind off as follows:

Pattern illustration

Heather Chevron Socks Break yarn, leaving a tail that is four times longer than your bind off edge. Thread yarn tail onto a tapestry needle. \*Sew needle through the first two sts on knitting needle purl-wise, then sew through the first st on knitting needle knit-wise. Drop the first st off the knitting needle. Repeat from \* until all sts are bound off.

Finishing:

Weave in ends. Block if desired. This design is for personal, non commercial use only. If you wish to share the pattern please don't distribute, instead, direct people to my site, or to the Schaefer Yarn site, so they can buy their own copy. Thank you!
