Techniques
Transferring Seed Beads To Cotton/Silk For best results, placethehankofbeadsonacookiesheetor something similar to catch “runaways". Carefully separate one end of one strand from the hank. Tie a knot around the last bead in the strand and remove the other end from the hank. This will keep the beads from slipping off the end. Unwind 3-4 yards of cotton/silk and leave attached to ball. Tie (one tie only, do not knot) the unknotted end of the bead string to the cotton/silk, about %2"-1" from the end.Gently slide the beads from the strand, over the tie and onto the cotton/silk. Transfer short sections of beads and move them down the full length of the cotton/silk. If a bead will not go over the tie, undo the tie and remove the bead. As the work progresses, continue to gently slide the beads down the length of the cotton/silk. Beaded Knitting (Kslip, a.k.a., Slip/slide 1 bead, k1) - Insert the needle into the st to be knit, slide one bead up against needle and knit the st. This technique is used when knitting on the wrong side (WS) and results in bead placement on the right side (RS). inc - increase. Knit in the front and the back of the next st. To inc with beads, place bead on first st of inc, unless otherwisenoted.

skp - slip, knit, pass. Slip the next st as if to purl, knit the following st, pass the slipped st over the knit st. To skp with beads, slip the next st as if to purl, Kslip the following st and pass the slipped st over the knit st. w&t - Wrap & Turn, short rows. Slip the next st as if to purl, bring the yarn forward and slip the st back onto the left hand needle. Turn work. Kslip on all WS short rows. I-Cord - Knit 3 sts on double pointed needle. Do not turn the work. \*Slide the 3 sts to other end of the dpn and K3\*. Repeat \*\* until cord is desired length. To finish, sew tail through all 3 sts and tie off. Beaded I-cord directions in Finishing Section. NOTE: Throughout all of the following patterns these guidelines and their exceptions apply unless otherwise noted in the directions: 1) The first stitch of every row is to be slipped knitwise. Exception: Do not slip the first st on rows beginning with inc or skp. 2) All RS rows are worked without beads, i.e., Slip 1, \*k\* across, unless otherwise noted. 3) All WS rows are worked with beads, i.e., Slip 1, \*Kslip\* across. Loopy Diagonal Pendant Bag (DMc #798 - Blue) Transfer 6 strands of seed beads to cotton/silk. Cast on 2 sts and knit 1 row loosely, do not slip first st. Row 1: (WS) Slip 1, \*Kslip\* across. Row 2: (RS) Inc in the first st as follows - slide 45 beads (approx. 2%") to the work; k without a bead in the front of the first st, leave first st on needle. Kslip in the back of the st with the 45 beads. Knit to the end of the row. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until 15 loops are completed. (17 sts) BackofBag Row 1: (WS) Slip 1, \*Kslip\* across. Row 2: (RS) Slip 1, \*k\* across. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until 64 rows (32 bead rows) of body have been completed. yuvit luw suapmy (uicaico a oy!uy iounucu vouu! edge) Repeat Row 1 of Back. Next Row: Slip 1, k to last 2 sts, w&t, Kslip to last 2 sts, w&t, k to end. Mark each side of this row. Front of Bag. Continue working as for back of bag until an additional 60 rows (30 bead rows) have been completed, ending with a RS row. Bind off loosely. Side Seams Fold bag at markers and stitch side seams (see Finishing). All-A-Flutter Pendant Bag (20/2 Silk -Maroon) Transfer 5 strands of seed beads to cotton/silk. Front Top Cast on 35 sts and knit one row loosely, do not slip first st. Row 1: (WS) Slip 1, \*Kslip\* across. Row 2: (RS) Slip 1, \*k\* across. Repeat Rows 1 & 2, then repeat Row 1 only and proceed to Decrease Rows. Decrease Rows Row 3: K2tog tbl (through the back loop), \*k\* across. Row 4: Skp with bead, \*Kslip\* across. Repeat Decrease Rows 3 & 4 until 5 sts remain. Bottom Fringe Row 1: (RS) Slip 1,\*k\* across. Row 2: (WS) Slip 1, slide 45 beads (approx. 2%"), Kslip in second st, slide 75 beads (approx 4"), Kslip in third st, slide 45 beads, Kslip in fourth st, k last st. Repeat Fringe Rows 1 & 2 once. Increase Rows Row 1: (RS) Inc in the first st, k to last st, inc. Row 2: (WS) Slip 1, \*Kslip\* across. Repeat increase Rows 1 & 2 until there are 35 sts, ending with a WS row. Back Top Row 1: Slip 1, \*k\* across. Row 2: Slip 1, \*Kslip\* across. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 once. Bind off loosely. Necklace Loops Transfer 30 beads to cotton/silk. Start on right top edge with RS facing. Pick up and knit 4 sts on cast on edge, 1/16" (1 bead) from edge of bag. Knit 20 rows (10 bead rows), continuing to Kslip on WS rows. Bind off loosely. Repeat on left side. Side Seams Fold bag in half and stitch side seams (see Finishing). Fold necklace loops to back and stitch onto bound off edge, matching front placement. Stitch through both thicknesses of bag at bottom of lops and out to edge. Necklace Strap Cut two 28" lengths of beading wire and string 15 seed beads on each. Insert one wire through one of the. necklace loops. Make a bead loop by passing each end of the wire through a larger bead; one end of the wire passing through the bead from right to left and the other end passing from left to right. String necklace as desired, threading the two wires through a single bead at regular intervals. Repeat for other side. Finish with desired clasp. Embellishments The bag can be embellished with seed beads, liquid silver/gold and charms or pendants.
Dazzler Pendant Bag (20/2 Silk - Ivory)
Front
Back
Continue working as for front of bag until an additional 64 rows (32 bead rows) have been completed, ending with a RSrow.
Flap
Side Seams
Fold bag at markers and stitch side seams together (see Finishing).
Finishing
Side Seams - For best results, hold with WS together, stitch the top edges securely and work down the bead rows as follows: with sewing needle, \*pass under the thread that goes through the edge bead on one side of the bag and repeat on the corresponding bead on the opposite side\*. Repeat \*\* until seam is complete. This brings the bead rows together and creates a seamless look. Work tails to inside and tie off.
Necklaces
Beaded necklace straps are an opportunity to let creativity shine. Cut length of beading wire 3-4" longer than desired strap and attach to bag as follows: working from outside edge of bag to inside, insert beading wire through seam area, 1 " from top and about 1-2" inside. Thread 5 seed beads on each section of the wire (inside and outside). Thread a crimp bead on long (outside) section of wire. Bring tail of inside wire through crimp bead, pull loop snug and crimp. Trim short tail to %2" and work into necklace as it is strung. Finish other end of cord as follows: string crimp bead, 5 seed beads, pass wire through seam, string 5 beads on inside. Bring tail up through crimp bead and through the first 3-6 beads on necklace. Pull wire until it is snug, crimp and trim tail. Beaded I-cord is worked as follows: with dpn, pick up 3 stsonbagedgewherecordisdesired,attachcotton/silk. Knit 3 rows I-cord without beads, Knit one row (3 sts) with beads, pushing the beads from back to front through the st instead of leaving it behind the st as in the Kslip technique. When working the first row after a bead row, keep the bead from the previous row below needle as it enters the st. Repeat until cord is desired length, ending with 3 rows without beads. Cut cotton/silk leaving about 6" tail. Bring tail through sts and tie off. Sew cord end to bag, making sure to distribute sts to match other side.
