Luxury Stranded Hat with a Touch of Cashmere by Bonnie Dean This original stitch pattern is inspired by a basket V design made by indigenous peoples of the Darien rainforest in Panama. The stitch pattern is accentuated by a garter stitch and 1X1 corrugated rib edge.
THE PATTERN
CO 138 sts in Color A. Pm. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the sts. Purl rnds 1 and 3. Knit rnds 2 and 4. Rnd 5: Inc 46 sts evenly as follows: \*p2, p1f+b; rep from\* to end of rnd - 184 sts. TECHNICAL TIP: Trapping floats is not recommended in this design due to the dense gauge resulting in less than 1"/2.54 cm floats throughout the stitch pattern. Wounaan Chart: Work rnds 1-27 of Chart. Work Repeat (rnds 6-27) once more. Work rnds 28-32. With Color A knit 1 rnd. DESIGNER NOTE: If a longer ski hat is desired. repeat rnds 6-27 twice. Crown shaping: Change to dpns when there are to0 few sts to work on circular needle. Dec rnds as follows, sl marker on rnds 2-22: 19 fiststant TECHNICAL TIP: Keep the same color dominant (yarn carried below) throughout the hat in the stripe and V pattern sections. TECHNICAL TIP: Spread out stitches on right needle when changing yarn color to avoid puckering and tight floats.

Bonnie Dean
Bonnie Dean became a TKGA Master Knitter in April 2015. She lives in Billings, MT with her husband Edward. Their Boulder, CO son Gavin introduced Bonnie to the knowledge of Chief Left Hand, a Southern Arapaho Chief who lived in the mid-1800's near Boulder She launched her company Chief Left Hand Knits in February 2014, incorporating her love of hand knitting and her longstanding love of decorative and fine arts of Native American artists along with the beauty of the spaces around Boulder where Chief Left Hand wintered. Bonnie is enjoying applying her experience in fabric-based garment construction and design to a new medium. Her designs focus on modern embellishment, texture and cables.
