Hat Body

Using MC and size US 6 needles, provisionally CO 108 sts and work three rounds. Using CC1, begin any desired animal chart that is only 6 or 7 rows high. I used one of running wolves from a paid pattern in my library; a link to it can be found on my project page for this hat. Knit 3 rounds after finishing the chart of your choice. Break CC1 yarn. Add CC2 and work \*Runes/Celtic Cross chart. NOTE: The squares with red outline consitute 5 sts (not 1) worked in MC. This space is where you will embroider on the sword.Break C2 yarn. Continue knitting in MC for another two inches. Next round: k25, k2tog around (104 sts) \*The nephew I created this hat for is named Daniel Lynn. To make the chart, Ifound pictures on the Internet of the Runic Alphabet and made my own chart.1 also found other Celtic symbols and went with the Celtic Cross as the separator. Unless you know someone who is proficient in reading Runes, you can use this chart to obtain "the look." However, if you want to customize it, you will need to make your own chart. As worked, my chart is 85 sts.
Crown and Decreases

Add cc3 and work Snow chart (includes the SSK decrease at the beginning of each repeat shown as a slanting line across two sts); always decrease using CC3 (lighter CC) as dominant color until using all CC. (Note: My hat looks a little different because I was winging it and incorporated the gray back in. This pattern does not include that information for sake of ease in knitting the hat.) leaving tail to pull through sts and tighten. Weave in top of hat end securely.
Folded Brim
size Us 5 needles, pick up provisional cast on and purl one round. Break yarr Attach CC2 and knit to same depth as your first chart plus. Bind off using a stretchy bind off. Break yarn leaving long enough tail to turn fold up and sew to inside using first purl row above end of chart.
Embroidered Sword
I used two strands of my CC1 and came up between center stitches, down two bars up and back up through one bar down to get the twisted effect. I then backstitched in the hilt and handle end. I repeated the same method with the gold in a fingering weight yarn to get the gold swirl up the sword. Weave in rest of ends, put on head and feel Magnusicent!
