Basketcase Liner
This is a really quick knit if you need to make a baby gift fast. It makes a small blanket ideal for uses such as keeping a baby warm in a stroller or car seat. Lining the blanket with a fleece backing will make it even cozier. The Basketweave stitch is so simple, but makes the illusion of a woven fabric. The texture is also fun for a baby to touch.
Materials:
Pound of Love, 1 skein, shown in Lavender US9 circular needles (or long straight needles that will accommodate 175 stitches) 2 markers $24^{\circ}\mathrm{~x~}30^{\circ}$ fleece backing (optional) Darning needle to weave in loose ends.
Gauge:
Not given. This pattern is for a knitted a rectangle. Any yarn/needle combo that gives you roughly 4-5 stitches per inch will do. If it gives you less stitches per inch, knit for longer, to make a larger blanket. If you have more stitches per inch, add in more repeats. The number of stitches between the 2 markers must be a multiple of $\mathbf{8}+\mathbf{5}$ (e.g. $85-5=80$ $80\div10=8$ , a whole number).

Knit 10 rows of “Stockinette stitch" Row 1 (RS): knit Row 2 (WS): knit On last row of Stockinette stitches, place markers to set up border as follows: K5, pm, K85, pm, K5 On the 85 stitches between the 2 markers, begin basket-weave stitch Continue working stockinette outside markers. In between markers, work "Basketweave stitch' Row 1 Knit across. Row 2 P3, $^{*}\mathrm{K}5$ , P3; repeat from \* to marker. Row 3 K3, $^{*}\mathrm{P}5$ , K3; repeat from \* to marker. Row 4 P3, $^{*}\mathrm{K}5$ , P3; repeat from \* marker. Row 5 Knit across. Row 6 K1, $\sp{*}\mathrm{P}3$ , K5; repeat from \* to last 4 sts, P3, K1. Row 7 P1, $\ast_{\mathrm{K3}}$ , P5; repeat from \* to last 4 sts, K3, P1. Row 8 K1, $\sp{*}\mathrm{P}3$ , K5; repeat from \* to last 4 sts, P3, K1. Repeat pattern 19 times, (or until piece looks like a rectangle!). Work 10 rows of stockinette stitch.
Optional Blanket-top Detailing:
Work Rows 6,7, and 8 of Basketweave stitch. Work 10 rows of Stockinette stitch.
Finishing:
BO all stitches loosely. Weave in loose ends. Line if desired.
